A few weeks back, Respawn Entertainment announced the Collector’s Edition of Titanfall, their upcoming FPS title exclusive to Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC, coming March 11th, 2014.
Today, they have revealed a sneak preview at the Artbook, coming with the Collector’s Edition on their website.
“A rare glimpse at what might have been before Respawn settled on the final Titanfall concept. “We had many iterations of what the actual game would be,” reveals artist Lewis Walden. “This is a very early concept of the Atlas cockpit before Titanfall actually became a large multiplayer game. These are Maya rendered concept images representing what the inside of Titan cockpits could look like from interior views.” The stark Atlas cockpit offers few home comforts for would-be pilots.”
“Building model kits has always been a part of making video games,” explains Joel Emslie. “Titanfall is a brand new universe and we had to build everything ourselves, so I decided to try my hand at kitbashing and scratchbuilding. Before building a maquette, I would decide on what type of model I needed and do a quick research phase. After I had my basic idea I would go into a gathering process, sourcing materials for the build.
Once I had a pile of parts to work with, I would sit down with an armature and begin layering fabrics and parts on the character. It’s hard to describe the building process because I’d conceptualize everything, so the build was more of an exploration. Sometimes I would complete an entire portion of the model and then rip it off and start over. I only gave these models a coat of primer because I anticipated that the coloring process would take place on the digital side.”
