Microsoft may have the Rare-developed Seas of Thieves up their sleeves, but Ubisoft has just pulled a surprise announcement with their latest IP Skull and Bones. Skull and Bones is an expansion of the pirate combat of Assasins Creed: Black Flag and is focused on PvP ship-to-ship battles.
While there are multiple game modes, the team at Ubisoft Singapore demoed the PvP-focused Loot Hunt, which pits two teams of five pirates against each other to obtain as much loot as possible and then escape from the ensuing merchant marines.
While it shares the same focus of piracy, it differs immensly from its biggest rival Seas of Thieves in a number of ways. For one, it is a much more lifelike, gritty version of the 1700s and players control the ship versus being a pirate working with other pirates to man a ship. In addition to PvP it seems that there will be a monster hunting/fighting mode as a seperate teaser displayed the legendary Kraken about to do battle with a pirate ship. The CEO of Ubisoft Yves Guillemot teased that the world of Skull and Bones was constantly evolving which could mean an open world experience in addition to the tight arena focus of the Skull and Bones multiplayer.
