Today, 343 Industries revealed a new project they have been working on called the Halo: Channel. This is the new destination for all your latest Halo news, videos and more.
Launching later this year, the Halo Channel will allow users to view the latest and greatest Halo content. Halo Channel will be the place to watch shows like Halo 4: Forward unto Dawn and the upcoming live-action digital series – Halo: Nightfall.
The Halo Channel will also feature a new streaming hub which is integrated with the Xbox One Twitch streaming feature. Players will be able to stream games of Halo: The Master Chief Collection and viewers will be able to spectate directly in the Halo Channel app and see the kill feed, current score and much more a lot easier.
While this isn’t a fully fledged spectator mode that a lot of people are wanting for Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Halo 5: Guardians, it is at least a step in the right direction and makes Halo much more user friendly for new and old viewers.
Another feature that will be in the Halo Channel is an encyclopedia just for Halo which will offer in-depth profiles for characters and more from the Halo Universe, an example is Agent Locke below.
When watching videos on the Halo Channel, sometimes viewers will be presented with a poll to vote on what content they want to see next. An example shown below is asking users which weapons breakdown they’d like to see next week and the current results at the time of the user voting.
If you happen to tune into Halo: Nightfall, you’ll be able to open a social feed and check out tweets and discussion around the #HaloNightfall hashtag.
When selecting an episode or after finishing an episode of a show, you will be presented with a screen which shows your progress for Challenges, Second Story, ONI Eyes and more information about the episode.
Completing these Challenges, etc will unlock bonus content in both Halo Channel and Halo titles like Halo 5: Guardians and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. An example of this is the new “Swarm” skull which is unlocked after completing a challenge for Halo: Nightfall. This new skull causes “Hunters to do double damage and have triple health.”.
Of course, you’ll be able to access all of this content on not just the Xbox One but also your phone, tablet and computer.
When viewing various pieces of content, you can pause the video and check out detailed information about characters, vehicles, etc in scenes you’ve just witnessed.
When watching pieces of content relating to Halo 5: Guardians, players will be presented with the option to pre-order the game directly through the Xbox One considering the console will now support pre-ordering and pre-loading of titles starting September 2014.
The Halo Channel will be launching close to Halo: The Master Chief Collection which releases November 11th, 2014. Below you can find a preview of another menu from the Halo Channel which shows simple and clean information about what is new in Halo, what your friends are currently doing and more.
