Multiplayer is always the biggest thing that keeps players coming back to Halo. When the experience starts to get a little bit stale, developers tend to release brand new maps to draw players back in and make some extra money.
The problem with doing this is, not everybody wants to purchase these maps and as a result, people who did purchase them have less people to play with and in a sense, splits the multiplayer population up almost entirely.
When Halo 5: Guardians ships later this year, there will be over 20 multiplayer maps available to play. From October 2015 to June 2016, 343 Industries plans on releasing 15 additional multiplayer maps and the best part is, they will all be available to everyone, free of charge. To put it into perspective, in just eight months, Halo 5: Guardians will have over 35 multiplayer maps that will be available for free.
This has been a growing trend in other video games in hopes that more players will be able to experience these new maps and add a lot more variety to the game.
