If Halo 5 fails, what Halo should be played competitively instead?

"When Halo 5 fails"

FTFY

Their 3 big games were largely failures; Halo CE Anniversary failed to deliver a remastered multiplayer to the dismay of us all, Halo 4 default settings were laughably bad, and MCC is a glitched mess.

Why should I, or anyone else for that matter believe that they can deliver?

@@Infinity As much as I like the idea to fight for sprint toggled off it is not going to happen.

They said the main focus of the game was to give spartans more movement options and designed the game (and maps) for these new options.

Also they said they want a competitve arena game and by toggling sprint off they would basicly say:

"Hey guys we wanted to make a good competitive arena shooter but we toggled sprint off because we got that it is bad for Halo"

It is not going to happen trust me if you design a game with sprint and think it is right why would it be turned off?

There is no fight for sprint toggled of imo. That is a thing that 343 would never support since they think having sprint in a Halo game is a good decision.

It's the same way we disable radar... I'd consider that one of the most unique parts of Halo's formula yet it is removed for competitive play.

What if Halo 5 succeeds? I think its safe to say that some of us only play sparingly now. With that said most pros have either quit or moved on to different games themselves. The games themselves are no longer even designed with us in mind. However what if the game succeeds? What if Halo rises up once again but is not what you think Halo is? What if it is played by more people then the original games in its prime? Obviously people from a competitive background would be the natural pros. And of course the kids who had the most time would eventually come through and carve out a name for themselves. Halo would have an older wiser pro scene possibly.

I guess my question is where would you be? A tournament organizer, LAN Center Owner, Pro Player, Commentator, Video Editing Specialist, Montage maker, game play reviewer, coach etc.. Where and what would you try to be doing?

Edit* I am completely aware my post has nothing to do with the OP's topic but it seems like most of the responses didn't really have to with what game you are going to be playing if Halo 5 fails.

Yeah, I'll be playing black ops 3.

100% yes.  all the greatness of BLOPS II - but back in the WWII era?  count me in (if the rumor is true)

I don't like how Advanced Warfare got rid of Killstreaks in Competitive play. They were so important in Blops 2 and they could change whole games when used correctly. They also gave the ground something to cheer for and it suited CoD's gameplay so well. I hate how AW made them redundant. Such a vital part of what made Blops 2 the best CoD.

Hopefully Blops 3 is as good if not better.

Also, on topic: I want MCC. I don't care about anything else I just want it to work. It literally fulfils my entire Halo need. I already don't care about Halo 5.

If you mean on HCS circuit, Halo 5 should still be played.  It's the most relevant to the mass consumer, whether it's good or not.

If you mean at grassroots-organized tournaments... H2C or CE, depending on if you want to highlight 4s or 2s.  The thing is... no one's making Grassroots tournaments.  Halo players are used to inflated prize pools from the MLG days of old and the scene couldn't survive off the meager earnings from FGCesque pittance pots.

Personally I think if H5 flops, shifting to a 2v2-focused scene would help tremendously.

Honestly it might be time for the halo community to start revolting, not by just saying mean things to 343 on twitter and bashing them but to actually come together as a community and refuse to purchase anything that 343 can potentially make money off of. I know we could never get everybody together in the same mindset to do this cause we have pros and people who hate sprint but still say "hey I will still buy the game even if it's bad". That mentality is so broken

I like H2A but you know 3 maps

I'd say multi game tournaments to boost attendance and add variety.
2v2 HCE
H2C FFA
4v4 H2C/H3

If halo 5 fails i'll be playing BLOPS 3 because treyarch games are the ones I actually really enjoy, hoping that H6 is good and posting on here, and hopefully building a PC so I can play CS:GO more and other pc games because im stuck on this fucking mac because I bought it for school and didnt realize id want to be a PC gamer because I had Halo to play.

And then of course my budding hope that MCC gets fixed before every single person leaves.

Surprised at the amount of H2 votes... some people just love teamshooting I guess

Why would you be surprised? It's a lot of peoples favorite Halo game.

There are pros and cons to all the choices imo.

The correct answer

For me it is MLG Reach v7 > H2C because we have so much options with Reach. We can create new maps change weapon placing and even the spawn times. Also we have static weapon timers which is huge imo. There is also more ZB gametypes now we can play ZB Oddball and ZB Assault now because people modded it.

We have so much options with Reach (weapons, timers, spawns, maps and all the player/ damage modifiers) that it is better than H2C imo.

Also one could easily use the pistol (which is a 4sk on ZB settings btw) as a starting weapon...

Also the grenade launcher <3

Reach literally could have been the GOAT if MLG implemented those settings sooner

Well it is the best 4v4 halo imo. It would be even better with better maps and faster weapon spawns like sniper 90s and rockets 120s. Also you can change the custom power-up to a two layer OS which would be better.

Pretty much what gold pro did with Reach but I never liked a 4sk DMR it needs less aim assist to be 4sk tbh. A 4sk DMR with less aim assist and no hitscan would be the GOAT for 4v4 halo.

Would it be a terrible idea to have a mixture of CE 2 and 3 at a LAN.

If thats a question then no thats not a bad idea at all, only problem is just that you cant really use halo 3 equipment for halo 1/2.

It is an opinion, but I thought they worked really well in BO2 competitive play as it gave another element to taking/holding hills and capping flags. It's not like they were handed out either, in high tier games they weren't too common.

But as we both said, this is my opinion.

Killstreaks were amazing for Black Ops 2 competitive play. Anyone who says different is a fool

In terms of viewership experience or actually adding counter-able tactics to the gameplay? Do you see the irony in that you have to debate clearly casual and random mechanics in CoD meanwhile in real comp games people actually care about creating a more skill-based and replayable meta(Ex: Q3 CPMA). This is exactly why I cant games like CoD seriously, its almost impossible once you have been enlightened to comp experiences that transcend skill barriers and anything you ever thought was possible in a FPS.

I stopped taking CoD seriously after playing 5 minutes of Ghosts so I couldn't care less at this point
