Str8 Kong Posted December 25, 2014 Halo CE and Halo 2 Classic/Anniversary have the best skyboxes IMO, Halo 3's skyboxes are very close...Bungie has always had a knack for amazing skyboxes. There where a couple in Halo 4, but Bungie was amazing about it. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Warlord Wossman Posted December 25, 2014 Seriously guys 343 making a bad game is one thing for me. But they are the developers so they can do everything they want with the game. Make a shitty game (that is fine we are not buying it then) but please tell us the truth and don't lie about reduced spread beeing only on automatics. I am so done! Don't fuck with your community like that. Stop telling us wrong bullshit. Quote Share this post Link to post
Hitman Posted December 25, 2014 Game looks dope. http://youtu.be/ed_xu_DUEbs "You may notice that you're moving pretty fast in toxikk, especially when compared to modern military shooters. So, no need to press the sprint key because in toxikk, you're basically always sprinting." 343 could learn a lot from this developer about how to design an arena shooter. I will give Toxikk a chance, but UT4 has my heart already from my time playing it and will have the bigger community and thus a more active mod community/community maps and more potential for e-sports. ALOT of QL pros/old top UT players have been playing it and giving feedback to make it the best comp Arena shooter it can be. It definitely has a classic UT feel to it, it already blows UT3 out of the water. Quote Share this post Link to post

GoldeNade Posted December 25, 2014 May I direct everyone to the Halo 5 discussion thread back in November when the leaks first occurred. Some people thought I was overreacting and that it was "all just an animation" and their would be no ADS mechanics. Now here we are today. Lets take a walk down memory lane. Just because a reticle looks a certain way or it looks like there is no slowdown in movement or any other gameplay change in this crappy short clip means nothing IMO. There is an ADS animation. My parents taught me that "if it looks like a duck..." We will see as things unfold between now and the game release. But you can mark my words now, there will be ADS mechanics. Some more of my feeling on the matter. Since I've already expressed them I'll just Copy/Paste. So you think that it is just a "reskin" with no fundamental changes to gameplay? Again I say ROFL.Why would anyone change the animation to a ADS animation, something that has well known functionality, yet not implement any of the well known ADS functionality? Why not leave it without then? Because if it is just a reskin of the animation then it isn't even ADS. What you are saying is that it isn't actually ADS, just still zoom with an iron sights animation. To that I say ROFL. Do you actually believe that they would do this for nothing more then a change in animation? Because I don't. I garantee there will be a change to the actual gameplay because of it. Slower movement, changes in fire from hip accuracy, etc. ...I don't think you understand what iron sights and ADS are. Halo has never had this. Zoom =/= ADS and I don't believe they just "changed the animation" to an ADS style with no other tweaks, that makes no logical sense. Frank O'Conner on why Halo doesn't have iron sights The main reason, according to 343 Industries' Frank O'Connor, comes down to the game's pace. "Halo has these slightly longer, more strategic encounters," he told AusGamers in an interview. "I think if I was playing Call of Duty for example, and a good player got the drop on me -- came up behind me -- I’m dead. There’s nothing I can do about it, not a chance."Halo has a different pace in encounters and if a good player comes up behind me and starts shooting, I’ve got a small chance of turning that encounter around. I’ll probably still get killed because I’m pretty bad, but it does have a different pace and it does have a bigger sandbox and I think that’s what makes Halo Halo.""When you think about aiming down sights or iron-sights, you’re kind of talking about a bullet-point on a list of design features and that in and of itself is fine, but you kind of want to think about the entire experience: 'What is an entire encounter like?'" adds 343's Chad Armstrong. "With Halo, you tend to get recognisable pacing and something like iron-sights can have a dramatic affect on what that pacing is."So there you have it. While it doesn't look as though you'll be lining up shots by looking down your pistol's barrel, at least you know why it isn't happening. Also they are completely ruining years worth of lore with how the Spartan HUD works. The reason there was no iron sights was because they had gloves as part of the suit that would detect each weapon a Spartan held. Allowing a unique reticule to be displayed through the HUD. They did not need to "aim down sights" because they had advanced past that 19th Century technology. Do people realize that we already have this HUD style capability today with futuristic weapons? Acting like we need iron sights in 26th Century is crazy....Iron Sights is a HUGE deal to me. I remember reviewers calling for it when halo 4 released and it made me so angry. I HATE iron sights. It belongs in WWII CoD games, not futuristic arena shooters. I was actually all ready to go out and buy an XB1 for MCC. Part of the reason for that was HOPE. HOPE that Halo was going to be good again with a real population of players. HOPE for the future. If Halo 5 has iron sights then I'm out. I won't be buying an XB1 because even though I do want to play MCC I won't reward people for effectively lying to fans about returning to their roots. I'm not putting that much money up to play MCC and then nothing else. Long story short, I hate this faux-ADS bullshit. This is a path to full blown ADS in Halo 6, guaranteed. The only way this gets stopped is if their is a LOT of backlash because the "goal" at this point is clearly to attempt to lure CoD shooter fans, screw being unique, and screw lore. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

Davesterio Posted December 25, 2014 Disappointed because I didn't realize I had an H5 beta code sitting in my Xbox messages and it says it was only good from Friday-Sunday.... It's still allowing me to download the beta with it so hopefully I can still get access, but either way I can preload it I guess. Quote Share this post Link to post

Joseph Posted December 25, 2014 Finally got around to doing this write up about my full thoughts about the Halo 5 Beta. I was a part of the early access beta and played it way too much, to the point of when I jumped back on H2A I was trying to clamber up ledges hah. Anyways, I wanted to wait after early access was over and give myself a few days to think about everything, and here it is. Sprint: I will not back down or change my stance on sprint whatsoever. It does not matter how you balance sprint, the only way it works if it is featured in a game that at its core has "instant kill" or "no shields" style of play by default similar to call of duty, especially if you are trying to create a competitive "Arena Shooter" atmosphere. Sprint is still a get out of jail free card, plain and simple. Every game has sprint these days, if 343 is looking to innovate a game or are interested in offering a unique experience in the current gaming marketplace, simply not including sprint in todays era of gaming is an innovation in and of itself. Here is some Halo 5 Beta gameplay proving my point about why Sprint is ridiculous in a game like Halo - xboxdvr.com/Tawpgun/4787b2c4-61a1-4194-827d-f2717d20b444 Sprint 100% needs to be removed from the Halo franchise, it was a massive mistake for it to be added into any Halo game in the first place. We tried it in Reach, and we tried it in Halo 4. 343 using a "we balanced it this time" excuse is simply just another loophole way to try and squeeze it into a Halo game once again, and for the 3rd time, it will not work (For reasons and video listed above). To put it as blunt as possible without being an asshole about it, whoever has the final say on the direction of this game needs to drop what THEY want in Halo 5, and seriously look at what the COMMUNITY WANTS, because the community is who buys the game and pays the bills. I view employees of the gaming industry the same way I view politicians, Your job is NOT to push your own agenda (even though everyone does sadly), your job is to make the majority of your community happy by doing the things that they think are important. If a politician promises something that everyone wants and does not deliver, come re-election time they are more than likely gone. The gaming industry is a bit different but it is very similar, you can only ignore what people want so many times before people quit investing into you, and whatever you are doing. Sprint is a mistake, holding onto it in Halo is a mistake, quit making the same mistakes. Thruster Pack: The thruster pack was honestly one of the only features in Halo 5 I sincerely enjoyed. You could use it skillfully, and if done correctly you could change the odds to your favor while in a gunfight, which I enjoyed very much. My only feedback would be to make the thruster pack go slightly less of a distance, this way it isnt a get out of jail free card like sprint, and also to increase the cooldown period a slight amount as well. This way players cannot use it as often, and when they do it isnt over powered, but still poweful enough to help them be the victor in a combat situation. Also if I recall correctly, while thrusting you cannot shoot and it lowers your weapon. Personally I think you should be able to shoot while thrustering to the left or right, the thruster has such a jerking motion that it would take skill to pick up a kill while in the middle of it. Stabilizers: Let me start by saying, yes, I know you can turn them off. However, the fact that they are even in this game is frightening. Being able to FLOAT mid air is.. absurd. I played 5 games with it on, and it was kind of ruining my gameplay experience so I toggled it off. It 100% removes the skill out of mid air / jumping gunfights which was dissapointing seeing as how 343 is trying to make a competitive shooter here. Being "Frozen" mid air while zooming requires no skill from the player to hit shots rather than basic, 1st grade level aiming abilities. Jumping and falling through the air while shooting bullets takes a good amount of skill, and it is rewarding to pick up kills in a skillful manner rather than a cheap floating zoom in function that gave me no satisfaction when picking up kills. Should not be in the game, I have no feedback for this feature besides it needs to be removed. Ground Pound: In my opinion ground pound is an extremely useless and a downright frustrating addition to Halo 5 Guardians. I think I ground pounded one person in 3 days of playing the beta, but my main issue is how you actually ground pound. Crouch jumping is a MASSIVE HABIT that most Halo players have developed over the duration of the franchise. It is legit a second nature to Halo players, when you are jumping in a gunfight, you crouch. Ground Pound DESTROYS this. Everytime I crouch jump I am all the sudden stuck mid-air in some next generation time warm with red and white circles all over my screen. Was an extremely frustrating experience for me throughout the beta. My only feedback for ground pound is to either remove the feature (which I what I would personally do), or make it any other button besides the left thumbstick to activate it. Shoulder Charge: As stated above I really dislike sprint (if that isnt clear already) and considering this feature directly correlates with how fast you are sprinting.... I didnt enjoy it. Simply un-needed. Smart Scope - This is aim down sights. I dont care what anyone from 343 says or what the "Technical" term is, or if its just the "animation" it is identical, and plays exactly like aim down sights, so lets get that out of the way right now. I didnt really enjoy aim down sights in Halo 5 Guardians to be honest. There was a point where I was sprinting up a ramp, was Stabilizing (floating) mid-air, "aim down sight smart scoping" and shooting somebody. In the middle of these cheese filled tactics, a simple thought hit me like a ton of bricks. "What am I even playing here". With all of these features combined it honestly didnt even feel like I was playing a Halo game, which was saddening to realize. There really is no problem with the standard zoom feature that the Halo franchise has had during its entire life-cycle. If it isnt broken, do not change it. Ranks: The ranking system was awesome in my opinion. Who would have known that an in-game ranking system in Halo would make people want to play even if they dont enjoy all of the features??? (Sarcasm). I was placed in Onyx and worked my way into "Pro", and it was a pretty enjoyable experience. My only gripe (and this may sound odd) is that I really just disliked how the ranking emblems actually looked. I know this is a beta, but they just seemed REALLY bland to me. If you look at Black ops 2's ranks below they look a lot cooler in my opinion. However, I am just happy we have ranks, you could put pictures of Hello Kitty emblems there for all I care, as long as I can see them in game. Medals: Way too many medals in this game. You received a medal for doing the most basic and average tasks. A medal should be reserved for something impressive, multi-kills, flag captures, etc. A perfect kill without missing a shot for example does not warrant a medal. The over usage of medals in Halo 5 waters them down, and it just isnt as cool (and actually kind of annoying) when you get them constantly. Descope: So happy that this feature is back. Even though a few abilities in Halo 5 are EXTREMELY questionable in my opinion, the fact that descope is back offers a glimmer of hope that they are willing to change their views and work with the community, which is great. Clamber: I actually liked Clamber, it was actually kind of fun and cool to use. You could thruster and then clamber onto ledges which I thought took a decent amount of skill and coordination to pull off, especially when under fire. However at the same time it does eliminate "skill jumps" from the equation, which is its only downside in my opinion. Anyways thats all I have for now, its 3:30am and its Christmas so I will add more later when I get to play the public beta I am sure. 29 Quote Share this post Link to post
BlessedOrange Posted December 25, 2014 Again guys. I know Smart Scope tightening spread for automatics isn't traditional Halo. But what makes it a bad addition? The simple explanation you mentioned is a good enough reason. It moves away from traditional halo. (And we all know why its being added) I think we've had enough of that. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
