Halo 5: Guardians Discussion

Recommended Posts

Ground Pound is honestly the most unexpected hype thing of Halo 5. It's not practical but I always want to get like a meaningful kill with it.

Got killed twice trying to get the last kill of the game with it.  Fathom or whatever the underwater map is I just sit top mid trying to get ground pound kills.  And whore railgun.  Hated the rail gun at first but now I like it.

I'm in the same boat, honestly.

Everyone thinks aiming feels terrible for completely different reasons at times from what I've read on here, Reddit, and on Waypoint. This makes me feel less inclined to believe that there's an actual issue with aiming and it's not just the player.

Just goes to show that there needs to be an option for what type of aiming people like or feel accustomed to.

trust me its not the player lol i have had very good aim with all halos ( starting to get pretty good with h5s aiming tho) but i noticed it my 2nd game on release  night that it doesn't feel like any other halo to me. Even h3s felt better to me

So what halo 5 rank is equivalent to a halo 3 50?

Diamond at most but Onyx and Champion are very dynamic.

You can get to Onyx and Champion but you keep on playing and WINNING to advance and maintain your Rank.

Kinda annoys me, I can't ninja kids anymore with an assassination without going into ground pound.

Hey, all!

  :ghost:

Saw Josh posting about the aiming in Halo 5 in response to some of your questions and figured it'd be a good time to lend some insight. That being said, yes, the aiming did change a little bit from Beta up until now. During the Beta, close-range gameplay felt fluid, mid-range felt decent, and long-range felt flat-out squirrelly. So, our Pro Team went through numerous tests over the course of a few months with our lead sandbox designer, Chris King, and the rest of his team in regards to how our how aim felt leading up to the release. There were some days where our entire team despised it, other days where our team had a split-decision, and finally one day where we all felt extremely comfortable with it.

Now, to be fair, we've played this game for two years, so we do have a lot more time spent getting comfortable with the movement, as well as the weaponry. Nevertheless, like any other Halo player, we all know how good our shots are when it comes to a Halo utility weapon, and that day, we felt it. Thus, after careful tweaking, constant iteration, and daily discussion, we landed on our favorite fit. It gave players the perfect blend of sensitivity across all three ranges. Yes, close-range might feel a little bit harder to control at first, but in the long run, you will all learn to adjust to it for the better. Shooting the magnum in this game is very particular, seemingly like how Killer N or StK Tupac shot their pistols in Halo 1. At first, it's going to be tough, but it will get much better with practice. Even to this day, shooting a Halo 1 pistol up-close is extremely challenging though, right? ;)

Furthermore, since the game is running at 60FPS, and the mobility is so fast in-game, I want to reiterate that everyone of us needs to adjust to how the aim-adhesion will feel for Halo 5. It's a bit tricky at first - using a single-shot weapon to essentially swipe over an enemy as you pull the trigger feels different than before. Also, in the Halo 5: Guardians Beta, a bug slipped through the cracks that had a delayed aim-assist problem. You could swipe your reticle over an opponent, and the game would display Red Reticle, but it was after a 5ms delay. Thankfully, we were able to address that issue and fix it before launch. So now, everything should feel very smooth. Nonetheless, we are actively listening to feedback, and we are always welcome to change. So, if players do feel this strongly about the aim after a few weeks, our teams will without a doubt revisit the sensitivity curves in Halo 5.

Anyways, haven't had the chance to say it yet - hope everyone truly enjoys Halo 5 here! I know I haven't posted on these forums in quite some time, but I assure you that I'll be frequenting them much more now that the game has launched. So, as always, feel free to leave your unadulterated feedback below!

Can we have an option to toggle between the current sensitivity curve settings and the ones from the beta (minus obvious glitches of course)?

Everyone will be happy, I promise.

I remember how rewarding getting a 50 in halo 3 was when I first got it, then a few days later I realized everyone and their mom had it and it became bitter sweet

I saw that post. And whoever was shooting simply sucked.

he OGRE TWITCHED his stick when the dude crouched.

that ain't a skillgap, that's someone forcing to miss just to make the strafing look decent.

The reticle is way off because it's Theater mode. I guarantee if you're good at aiming while crouch strafing, you will absolutely dominate. But something about the aiming in this game is just really hard. I personally preferred the beta aiming a lot more.

I get that they adjusted it to make long range battles possible with the pistol, but everything feels so ridiculously heavy, especially at close range.

If I adjust my sensitivity for close range, then I'm worthless long range, and vice versa. I really wish they put an option to turn aim smoothing or whatever it is off.

Also, I don't understand what the last sentence of your post means... if you can force someone to miss, it means the strafing is good?

My last sentence means, the person shooting forced himself to miss on purpose.

Either that or he was completely incompetent, and sucked really bad at shooting. I sensed this because he missed a blatantly easy beatdown, and then ogre twitched when shooting his opponent.

A terrible, terrible example of any skill gap in Halo 5.

Had some real bad luck with quitters in my placement matches... Climbing out of plat right now and I have noticed even at Plat 3/4 it is putting me in a lot of Diamond games. Not complaining just found it interesting.

Ranking system does seem to work though honestly. All of my games have been nail biters.

The poor map designs is making the game play really boring, and Orion is a sick joke. I really can't wait for forge to come out. I have a feeling the forgers are going to design 10x better maps then the current ones we are using.

Why would they miss on purpose? You know that clip was me in Matchmaking juking out someone and out shooting them right... this isn't some sort of dev clip where they got someone to miss if that's what you somehow think.

And like I said, the beat down, camera, and reticle movement all look off because that's just how spectator mode is. But if you don't want to believe what I'm saying about the shooting skill gap, that's your choice, but I don't know why you asked in the first place.

When I was in my placement matches playing thumb-less people I was thinking "man why do the beyond posters hate Orion so much"

Started playing competent people on it: "Ahhhhhhh now I see"

I'm an Onyx rank in Swat. I'm stuck at a 1508 rating. I won 5 in a row with more than a 1.5 K/D all 5 games and i didn't move at all. Is this correct or am i bugged? I was previously going up and down every win or loss but now i'm just stuck. Anyone else experiencing anything along these lines?

bro

they OGRE TWITCHED in response to you jumping

they swept their reticule UNDER you when you jumped

Whoever this person you did dirty is, they are not good in the first place and a simple jump would have fucked them up regardless

it isn't due to large skillgap, it's due to the person being a simple casual playing the latest wave day 1

what i want to see, how is strafing effective against competent players who know how to play Halo

that was my essentially my question the entire time

Killing frenzy 3rd game...think I'm getting the hang of it.

Definitely see what everyone is talking about. The fast pace the game seems to want to force does not mix with the...let's call it ponderous aim.

That said, I don't hate it- so far

You consider diamond to be near a 50?
