Halo 5: Guardians Discussion

Neogaf is pretty bad. This place isn't much better on days like today.

The beyond forums never let the truth get in the way of a good story. I've actually grown to like the people who run this site. They're professional and do a good job. And they deserved a review copy. But goddamn are these forums bad sometimes.

Never said this site couldn't be. But Neogaf is scary bad. These are guys who ban you for "suggesting NeoGaf is a hivemind" and think a rape survivor who doesn't believe in defending pedophiles is "biased and shouldn't be allowed to pass jusgement on a 'sexual orientation'"

Fuck neogaf. There are some good people but holy shit, 4chan is way more respectable

The Rig, Eden, Plaza, Pegasus, and Orion are all asymmetrical, and they are probably the best maps in the game.

wait what. i have not seen Pegasus or Orion on streams.

i taught the rig, Eden, and plaza were inverse symmetrical (like Sanc). i must not be paying attention. plaza is a very hard map to watch for me, hard to tell what is going on

Actually considering buying BO3 after seeing that they put a measure to limit the boosting BS of AW. I'm gonna give it until christmas, and if I see the same raging ab COD on twitter as I always do I'll pass yet again.

Blops 3 from the beta alone played much better than AW. Weapons are MUCH more balanced and the thrust is not very helpful in fights like in AW. It's more of a movement mechanic. The big problem it will have though is the specialists. They cause some pretty cheesy deaths and add even more randomness to COD. But the game will without a doubt be better than AW that game was the worst fps I have played in a long time.

Haven? You mean generic grey shapes map #2734? Zealot? Purple halo map #7? Coliseum? Literally don't even know.

You're being quite generous with your classification of 'memorible' maps.

How could you not know those maps are from Halo?

Look at the fucking designs. Every single bit of those are Halo. You may think they are trash maps, because god fucking knows you can't have a legitimate conversation about the quality of Halo on this site without giving CE a blowjob every sentence, but those maps are clearly Halo maps.

Zealot for Reach? What other game would have a map like that? Same thing for Haven in Halo 4. Coliseum in Halo 5?

Covenant and forerunner maps are absolutely identifiable with Halo. Those were the most played maps in those games, or damn close to it.

Covenant, perhaps, but mostly because they're purple. Forerunner? I doubt that very much, given that the theme of gray polygons with glowy bits is actually a very common theme in sci-fi. Those maps are recognizable to you because you're a dedicated Halo player. Sure, part of it has to do with the fact that Reach and H4 both suck nads, but you think Haven is a memorable map only because it's the one H4 map that was even remotely acceptable to play on.

This is exactly what I've noticed, and it's why I'm gonna give it a bit before I fully decide to pull the trigger or pass. I really like toning down the boosting, and it looks like you can once again predict enemy movements and the maps will have flow, but then I read about the specialists thing, and immediately thought that alone might undo the positives I had seen. My biggest issue with cod is bullshit deaths, and if that makes them more frequent, I will definitely be passing on it. BO1 was the most perfectly balanced COD imo, post ak-74u nerf. Just needed deathstreaks to be removed and it would have been perfect.

after a day of that game and only getting haven, I can say with absolute sincerity that haven is a cunt.

Yeah look no further than the console wars of a year or so ago. Absolute trash over there, that thinks they are more knowledgeable than the rest of the gaming masses, which doesn't lead to good discussion. Same goes for here and r/gaming. The most balanced views on Halo I think come from r/Halo. It's just on the casual side a lot of the time.

I've never been a massive fan of either CE or 2's art style and so none of the maps there really do it for me, and like I said before Reach had the most horrendous blur effects ever to the point where I just hate that game visually as a result. The absurd lighting effects in 4 pretty much throw the visuals of that game out of whack

Halo 3 is where I think all aspects of the Halo art style hit their stride. The colours, the vibrancy, the architecture, lighting, everything. That said I actually think 5 is getting a lot of things right. The lighting is still too much but they've toned it down a bit while also improving other things.

Agreed. And yeah, Halo 5 went in the right direction in terms of color, but the over-design in geometry is still there.

Yea man definitely a smart move to wait a little bit. Treyarch is also very open to rebalancing and nerfing/buffing things so waiting a little after release should help a lot. If they still have too much garbage then you know not to go for it.

Yup. Because saying haven or zealot weren't memorable maps means I'm giving CE a blowjob.

Zealot was a halo map simply because it was purple. Haven? Is that a halo map?

I agree that aesthetically, Halo 3 did it the best for maps. However CE and H2 were on an inferior machine.

True but even in terms of basic color Halo 3 easily beats CE. 2 is just bleh.

Good post I agree completely

Looking back over them now and I think you'd have to admit that a lot of the CE maps are rather dull. I understand they were working with lesser machines but even so I don't think maps like Wizard or Rat Race were ever particularly great looking. Prisoner is nice and Hang 'Em High has a great ominous feel to it, but a lot of these are just Halo maps by association. As in its no surprise that the maps from the first game (that people have been playing for 14 years) are memorable by now, you can't even compare them. It's like comparing a new CS map to Dust2. Of course the new one will always come up short, its fuckin' Dust2 after all
