If you are experiencing the 0x8007065B error when signing in.

  • Navigate to either C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ for 64bit or C:\Windows\System32\ for a 32 bit computer.
  • Copy and paste the xlive.dll and the xlive.dll.cat files from their to the root installation folder of your Halo 2 Vista.

  • Relaunch the game so it'll load the xlive.dll file.

This is what I need to do!! Can somebody tell me where I have to go to do this?? I am not that good with computers so I don't even know how to do step 1..

Plugged my xbox 360 controller in and let it install drivers and all that. Played a couple games and it was fine for hte most part except for every minute or so my aim would go bezerk. I'd be shooting someone and all of a sudden I'd be looking straight up (or down/right/left.). Is this just something that happens on H2V because of lag or is there something wrong with my controller?

edit: Unplugged my mouse and that fixed it.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I'm having with updating Halo 2.

I have a legitimate key which I used to activate the game and I use my xbox live email and password to sign into 'games for windows live' at startup. However after it 'fetches my profile' it then comes up with a prompt telling me to update or I will be signed out of live.

When I click yes to update, it says updating for a second and then tells me 'Can't download update, make sure you are connected to the internet if the problem persist go to games for windows support. 0X80072751'

The 0X80072751 is the error code and after googling everywhere I still can't seem to find a fix. Here's what I've tried:

- Port forwarding the ports

- Manually downloading the update and running it. It says it has updated it but when I go back onto Halo 2 I still get the above ^

- Disabling firewall and anti virus completely

- I also followed these steps from a forum post:

Step 1: Uninstall Halo 2 Vista

Step 2: Uninstall anything with "Games for windows live" in it's name
Step 3: Go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE" and delete the contents of that folder and the folder it self.
Step 4: Go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo 2" and delete the contents of that folder and the folder it self.
Step 5: Go to "C:\Users\Shay\Documents\My Games\Halo 2" and delete the contents of that folder and the folder it self.
Step 5: Download and install this http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=201134
Step 6: Install Halo 2 Vista, do not launch.
Step 7: Download and install this http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/0/e/b0ec1acf-8623-45 20-9764-75baaffc0718/Update.exe
Step 7: Launch "startup.exe" once, log in. Wait until main menu appears.
Step 8: Quit, and from now on, use "halo2.exe"

None of these solutions have worked for me and I was wondering if you guys could help me I'm dying to play online again.

I've followed the instructions in the windows 7 video exactly but I'm having problems. After entering the key I never had to go through the phone activation. None of the keys in the keygen were working so I used my key from GTA IV.

Now when I run the game it starts fine but after 10-15 second I start seeing a heavy decrease in FPS until it no longer responds. I've reinstalled the game and it hasn't made a difference. I've been able to get into a multiplayer game quickly but it still went unresponsive like usual. Know of any solutions to this problem?

If you have file extensions hidden, then you will not see the .cat file. Look for a "security catalog" type, it should have been located right below or above the xlive.dll.

The root installation folder is where the game is installed to. It is either C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo 2 or C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo 2 depending on your version of Windows.

The key should not affect graphical issues. Do you have vsync enabled or forcing 60FPS? A good video card still needs to have it manually set as Halo 2 Vista does not optimize itself.

Turned on framerate limiting in Catalyst Control Center, still having the same issue. Any other ideas?

I really appreciate your help by the way!

Did you set it as application specific? http://gyazo.com/ab3086e85b4da81f777987eca35023d3

Make sure Wait for Vertical Refresh = Always On and you can also enable Triple Buffering. If that does not work, look at the 2nd post in FAQs and try RadeonPro.

Hey guys, I'm experiencing the same issue as well! I haven't tried port forwarding as of yet but just wanted to let you know that you aren't the only one in this situation. I'll let you know if I find a fix though

Ok I'm sorry! I mixed up the error codes.

Error Code: 0x8007065B

  • Details: related to corrupt gamertag details.  this usually happens when you first download your profile and it doesn't download all the way.
  • Fix: navigate to the Xlive folder located in  %localappdata%\Microsoft\Xlive\ and delete the Content folder.  This will delete all gamertags signed into GFWL.  If you have multiple folder, you can naviage through them and see which one is related to the specific gamertag that is corrupt.  Otherwise just wipe them clean, and redownload the profile.  Alternatively you can go into GFWL in game and delete the profile and re download it.

Error Code: 0x80072751

  • Details:  This error code is linked to the internet protocol that is used for GFWL update service.  Usually this happens when the Internet Protocol settings on either the computer (in the registry) or the router/modem/gateway are set to custom settings rather than default.
  • Fix or Work-Around: Install the latest version of LIVE first. Then update the game manually.  Then navigate to your xlive.dll in your Windows folder.
    • 32 bit: C:\Windows\System32\
    • 64 bit: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\
  • Then drag the xlive.dll and the xlive.dll.cat file into the installation folder of Halo 2. (aka the root folder).  If you do not see these files that means file extensions for known file times are hidden.  You can choose to enable them in folder options or just look for the file names xlive and xlive.dll (the types should say DLL and Security Catalogue)
  • Launch the game as Administrator, sign into live.  And it should work.
  • Another issue that has caused a code similar to this is make sure your computer's region is in a region supported by LIVE.  So all you league players trying to get in specific regions... make sure you switch your computer's region back before playing Halo 2.

Ahhhhh I tried port forwarding and putting my PC in a DMZ but it didn't work. I tried manually updating and dragging the xlive files and still didn't work! I'm dying inside!!! Could there possibly be an issue with the fact that I verified my Halo 2 copy by phone using the USA line but my league client is set to EUW? I didn't have any clue that could be affecting the download.

Just for general information in case there's a common theme:

OS: Windows 7 Proffessional N 64-bit

Processor: intel i5 4200m

GPU: NVidia GeForce 750m

Router: BT Hub 4

Thanks for the help

Here's what I tried regarding your post:

- uninstalled games for windows live

- installed the latest version

- ran the latest update for halo 2, it comes up with 'Halo 2 vista update has been applied'

- I then dragged the xlive.dll and .cat into my Halo 2 folder

- Ran the game as administrator and still I'm getting the same problem as my post above, nothing has changed

I really don't know how to fix this.

Ok I think I have fixed something, however i'm still not online yet.

I had a program which changed my internal IP address from dynamic to static (this was for port forwarding reasons) and all of a sudden when I changed my IP back to dynamic something has changed.

Now when I go onto Halo 2 I sign in and it says fetching profile information and then comes up with the prompt to update or I will be signed out of live. When I click update, the bar is actually going up now and doesn't give me the error message. However when it gets to the top the Halo 2 program minimises/closes off and a little dialog box flashes for a second saying something like 'please wait while windows configures microsoft games for windows live redistributable ' and then Halo 2 restarts itself but one I sign in again it prompts me to update again and now I'm stuck in this loop.
