jeromesix Posted August 29, 2015 How does a ranking system make the gameplay fun for them in a game featuring 8 bad players? I guess I'm not done responding to you... ugh. Because then no one is getting stomped on, regardless of starting weapons. Everyone in the game has an equally good chance of doing well, even if the gun is difficult for them to use. 2 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

You do realise it is possible to not have fun in a game and for it to have nothing to do with losing or doing poorly individually right? I can play COD and go +40 every game and still not have fun. I can play close, nail bitter games in COD. And still not have much fun. I can play SWAT in Halo and have close, nail bitter games or go +40 and still not have much fun. If they don't like the settings it doesn't really matter if the ranking system is working. The ranking system can work perfectly and they can still find the lack of weapon variety boring, or the lack of radar aggravating, etc 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Starting with a worthless weapon is? Coop, I can't follow you man. I know it's "subjective" and "opinion" and "irrelevant" but you gotta tell us what you actually find fun in Halo or we can't even tell what point your trying to get to. 2 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

He's getting at that what we think is fun is not fun for the casual audience on the whole. I can't speak for all of them, but personally, I don't find Halo 4 fun, even when I dominate. However, other people do. A ranking system doesn't make games inherently fun. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

For some people, playing with radar and having AR starts is more fun. I'm literally baffled that it is taking you this long to be able to understand the fact that different people have different opinions and that your preferences are not objectively better for all people. What I enjoy has literally nothing to do with this discussion. This discussion is about whether MLG/hardcore settings are "the best settings" for everyone. Since you are so dead set on my preferences though; no, I have never thought MLG/Hardcore settings were the most fun(other than Reach ZBNS). Quote Share this post Link to post

Cooper Posted August 29, 2015 Gee, thanks. I did tell you... I've always preferred default over MLG/hardcore. With the exception of ZBNS in Reach. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
StaticGnome Posted August 29, 2015 I wish 343 just waited until this game worked to release it. But that would have retained the player population and who would buy Halo 5? Quote Share this post Link to post
ABearInTheWoods Posted August 30, 2015 I wish 343 just waited until this game worked to release it. Well..... by that logic - we never would have received the game. 9 Quote Share this post Link to post

Every day I clicked on that actually loaded properly showed a concurrent player count somewhere in the 100,000s. Hard Way Posted August 30, 2015 You and I simply disagree at a fundamental level. I don't believe you are anywhere close to correct on the bold points. Super slayer isn't a good example to use. To validate your point you have to actually create your ideal Team Slayer playlist, put it at the top, and see what happens. I am done discussing this issue, I have made my point as clear as I possibly can. You don't think people will play whatever playlist is called Team Slayer? Really? If you took out all the SMG/AR starts and made it its own playlist called "AR Slayer", or in Reach's case "Full Bloom Slayer" and put it 8 slots down from the top, do you think it'd keep it's population? Do you think the masses would leave the Team Slayer playlist, track down their beloved AR starts, radar and bloom in the AR Slayer playlist 8 slots down from the top, and suddenly populate that? If you do, you're high. They will play whatever they think is the standard. Larry's anecdote about the ZB TU Slayer playlist is exactly what I'm talking about. They don't read. They don't explore. They just play whatever is deemed the standard. How is Super Slayer not a good example? Its like the perfect example! The playlists were incredibly similar. I think the only differences were the TU changes (85% bloom), a few different forge maps, and no armor lock. If those playlists traded places but the names stayed the same, the populations wouldn't fucking budge. I'd bet a thousand dollars. And "to validate my point I'd actually have to create my ideal Team Slayer playlist and put it at the top to see what happens"...well, I'd love to do that, but obviously I can't. That doesn't mean we can't discuss it. As for the rest of the discussion regarding bad players wanting crutches, the only crutch I actually do think players need is an automatic weapon on spawn as a secondary. I understand that only have a precision weapon that you can't aim well with would be too difficult when you're just starting out. I'm kind of in that situation right now with Gears of War. The shotgun is essentially that game's BR, and the lancer is it's AR. I'm bad at hipfiring and wallbouncing, so I probably lancer more than I should. So I get that part. But I don't think new players need radar and need the inability to defend themselves at range in order to have fun. I do think it'd be a good idea to have a separate playlist called Beginners Training Ground or something, and stick all the AR starts, radar settings in that. Have it invisibly skill match based solely on K+A/D, and don't have it track stats whatsoever. It would offer no XP, and any kills or deaths you get in that playlist would not be added to your career stats, so there would be no incentive to use the playlist to farm kills on helpless beginners, or to stay in the playlist after you've learned how to play. As long as the skill matching is on point, I think you could take Reach's v7 MLG settings, slap an AR secondary in there, and present that as default Halo, and the game would not only survive just fine, but probably have a resurgence. 11 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

You're thinking of Squad Slayer, which Super Slayer replaced, which was 5v5, had the TU, was 75 kills to win. and lacked Armor Lock, Sword Base, and Uncaged. Super Slayer was identical to Team Slayer in every way besides having the TU without bleedthrough and a stupid name I agree with you. Most people probably wouldn't have really noticed most of the changes. EDIT: Super Slayer eventually had Zero Bloom Slayer (with full loadouts) consolidated into it. I forgot about that. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

MrGreenWithAGun Posted August 30, 2015 So doing well isn't fun... WHAT??? You really don't get that concept? Dominion wasn't fun even though I could stomp on the other team once I had control of a base. It was BORING. Why on earth would you be involved in an adult conversation and not understand this simple concept? The fact that you were posting here made me assume you were better than that. I'm blown away that I wasted any time discussing this with you. 2 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
aKREZZ Posted August 30, 2015 Hey I liked Dominion... Playing the H4 playlist I figured out what there is so far available in the playlist for Dominion Light. Forge Island Inheritor Onyx The Ark Impact Honeycomb Station 9 Ravine Plazza Settler Shoutout I'm sure there are way more maps to but even then Dominion Light doesn't pop up, hopefully in the future Halo 4 has the 1st option as OBJ on regular maps, 2nd option as OBJ on Forge maps & remove Team Slayer from 2nd slot. And then just keep the 3rd slot as Legendary Slayer BRs. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

The lifts are really clunky though. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
