Predictions and/or hopes for the settings?

I think BR starts, maybe sidekick secondary, and no radar. Then standard two frags and no equipment.

Gametypes would be strongholds, flag, and slayer for sure. Wouldn't surprise me if there was one or two other gametypes thrown in.

Bazaar is a bomb map and nothing else.

I fully expect it to be on the list as Slayer and CTF only.

The TtK advantage of the Commando is hard to ignore, even with its potential bloom. I feel the BR is far to easy, and far too slow. I hope for Commando starts so we could have a significant TtK improvement for the first time in what? Going on 20 years?

Hard disagree as long as bloom is still a thing, and removing it would definitely make the commando too easy.  BRs might be "boring" to a lot of people, but currently I think they're the only option because IIRC they're the only precision weapon that doesn't have crazy bloom for some god-forsaken reason.

Side note, the thumbnail for the settings vid is teasing BR starts with no radar, and that strongholds on Recharge will be a gametype.  Can't wait to find out the nitty-gritty tomorrow.

Hoping powerups are buffed. At least OS. I'd be happy if they just auto activated rather than being pocketed to compensate for a buff. But I admit: unlikely.

Hoping for better pickup placement (ie more power weapons) too. If recharge is still a powerup and hammer for major pickups, I'm going to lol.

Oddball will almost certainly make it in.  If we could get some half-decent neutral bomb settings I think that'd be good too.

the h2 br, h3 br, hr dmr and h4 br all have ttk of ~1.5. The h5 pistol had a TTK of 1.2 seconds so we already have an improvement.

The h6 br being 1.5s again is worrying tho.

the commando is not the answer. it's an rng weapon.

Hopefully there's some alt pistol that wasn't in the beta as the starting wep. a no bloom sidekick would be better than the h6 br though still not great. A h5 pistol with a bigger mag would be sufficient.

Strongholds change: you stop scoring once the other team starts capturing your zone; you have to reset the zone to continue scoring. I actually really like this change, I think it forces more movement by the team in control as opposed to just grenade spamming or long-range shots to keep people out of the zone.

Overall I think the settings are pretty solid.  Definitely wary about equipment, but as long as they're willing to make changes if something becomes game-breaking then I think we'll be good.

Where did you get the idea it was no sprint?

Welcome back to reality, which is often disappointing.

Of course they’re willing to make changes. They’ll just need a few years’ worth of data. Infinite is a decade-long service, remember? Wouldn’t want to be hasty about anything.

You guys are absolutely crazy if you think people are going to get excited to get on and play this game in a few months and shoot this BR at each other for the millionth time. The pistol/AR start was atrocious in this game, but BR starts is pretty bad, too. It's H2A all over again...8 years later.

But with sprint & clamber! And a slower TTK BR!

I'm honestly pretty happy with it given the situation. If you had given me the same game that they had and told me to make the competitive settings for it they did everything I would've done in the context of not being able to rebalance the game. To put that more into perspective think of all of the new Halo games we've started with, the settings arguments and how we kind of reset and tried a lot of obviously non competitive weapons and settings to start most of those games you'll see this is actually a big step up for 343. They learned from previous games and used that knowledge to setup our basic competitive settings in Infinite where in the past we'd be stuck playing on some bullshit for awhile before we reached this point. By awhile I mean potentially for a year or two. You gotta give the guys in charge of these settings credit for that.

We're actually starting this game from a good place settings wise and we can continue to build and change things from there over time but as of right now there isn't anything egregious like AR/radar starts, sprint is very toned down, mobility pick ups are actually on map pick ups, we have static power ups and weapons and they removed nade hit markers. That's more than I would've reasonably expected from 343

Given the context of the rest of their sandbox I would've much rather seen a projectile BR with a slightly faster kill speed, removal of bloom from the sidekick/snipe no scopes and I'd probably take another look at making the commando a lot less random somehow but other than that I feel like I'd need to drastically change their game to really do more than that

They can keep that ridiculous AR for casual settings as long as I don't have to deal with it in ranked play

Agree with everything except the BR.  I just prefer hitscan weapons for arena shooters (for the most part).

Unfortunately I don't think we'll see a Sidekick/Sniper/Commando rework no matter how much we bitch about it.  Either way, as long as the BR stays solid I think we're in a good spot for comp settings.

We'll never be in as good of a place settings-wise as we were in H4. Ghost really made the best out of what he had, couldn't have asked for more without modding the game.

We did mod the game to not have sprint and they banned your account if the gametype was in your fileshare

Lo and behold, 2 years later they'd sell that mod to you for $60 with a fraction of the maps and a non-functional matchmaking system to boot.

Arena? Hitscan? What?

The term arena shooter has been dragged through the mud so much that it doesn't even mean anything at this point.
