Halo Infinite Discussion

The Halo community at large is the only group I can think of that is willfully and blissfully shit at "their" game. It's almost like some people wear it as a badge of honor.

On multiple occasions you have pointed out how reddit and Waypoint react to/interpret things. Do you by chance follow League of Legends at all? The World Championship group stage is ongoing; check out their subreddit. I think there is perhaps a single topic on the entire first page NOT related to professional play. Granted it is the biggest event of the year for that game but the point I'm making here is that as a casual observer, other gaming communities fully embrace competitive play and in general, players like to improve over time.

Popularity is NOT indicative of quality. I realize that's funny to say after my last point, but I think this is especially important to bear in mind with respect to Halo and its status as a niche franchise. At best, the "masses" don't know what's good for them and at worst, they agree that less skillful gameplay is the correct design direction. I place basically zero value on the opinion of the average r/Halo or Waypoint poster. While I don't mind playing Halo to mess around with friends or have fun with goofy custom games, in my opinion PVP gameplay should be inherently competitive. The typical modern Halo fan who enjoys long kill times and skill-less AR bullet hose spam probably doesn't have a firm grasp on why that style of game isn't fun for players who want to test their mettle. They just don't want to get repeatedly roasted by better players and need their dopamine drip-feed from the developer.

Absolutely this. I was going to point out that it’s funny because garbage tier halo fans on Reddit and waypoint obviously DONT hate fast kill times because who loves SWAT more than really bad players. There’s a sweet spot for perfect vs average killtimes and they hate THAT particular spot because that is where no matter what they do they can’t get a kill vs a better opponent and will always get outplayed.

This game is going to be a pubstompers dream

Kids rolling in social will stand on top of each other, teamshotting with such a long killtime will mean individual players will get melted with no recourse, running in and baiting enemy players for an incoming sea of grenades and other explosive damage that will do nothing to your teammates charging in

I cant believe collision and team fire were turned off instead of introducing options for forfeit and vote kicking, the whole game experience will suffer as a result. Such a separation of consequence for position and decision making between ranked and social like this wont bode well, either.

If the leaks about forge end up being true and they work, this iteration of forge will be absolutely bonkers.

What's the TLDR on forge? I heard there's scriping and that people can basically make thei rown campaign levels now. Neat I guess, but how does this help us as the comp community?

Well that depends. Are you, like me, a bitter fuck who could survive on a desert island off of nothing but schadenfreude?

Because since Reach dropped, name one actual good thing that's happened to this franchise from a gameplay perspective that lasted more than a game. My only contribution is a centered reticule.

Why is this the best thing 343 has added in a decade of working on the franchise

You know when you're so scared of failure (e.g. an exam or test) that you fail?

I feel that's how 343's leadership works.

I know this is late, but how was the Battlefield Beta? I never got to play it and have heard pretty mixed things. I am considering just waiting to get it once it goes on sale at some point.

It was pretty rough. The worst thing for me was the sound design, it sounded like I was under water the whole time. The gunplay felt rather shallow, and the specialists didn't add anything, but took away a lot of teamplay. I might still get it depending on how it looks on full release, but the beta itself was rather disappointing.

I didn't like the idea of specialists as soon as I heard about them. I saw how it was hard to tell teammates from enemies in the beta because it was literally the same 4 characters running around the map.

It is funny how it seems like Infinite has had the most positive reaction as far as the big FPS games releasing this fall. Maybe it just needs to be slightly better than average to "win."

Currently in the middle of an internet argument with someone who believes Spartan Charge was "fun". Does anyone have a clip of that dude doing a literal fucking U-turn to hit someone?

It's what I've been saying for a while now lol. Halo's population was a time bomb waiting to go off ever since Halo 2. This is what happens when your developer caters specifically to timmies and people who want to fuck around while screwing over people who want to improve.

It's such a stark contrast lmao. I (and most people on here) care about progression system, matchmaking features and conveniences, competitive integrity and developer creativity.

What does your average redditard care about? Armor customization, the scratches on master chief armor, cosplay, and being able to play as an Elite in multiplayer.

Throw the whole franchise away at this point and start a new IP without any of the baggage attached to Halo.

Lol that basically sums up the halo community. Oh and they hate precision weapon starts.

Personally, I cancelled my pre-order for it.

Specialists sucks everything inherent to Battlefield's style of play right out of the game. I might buy it used down the line if Portal isn't too fucked up, but the base game is trash.

Why would you pre-order a game in the first place? That's like betting on a horse that has lost every single race for 10 years.

It'll be BF portal mode not BF 2042 in the end for most BF fans if either works out. The beta went as expected for a BF game performance wise (not great) but that's normal and a lot of the BF gameplay was actually fine and expected but specialists just aren't right for that franchise imo. The more classic class based weapons/equipment were much better for the series. When the game actually releases I'd expect it to look a lot better than the beta did and for them to fix a lot of things but to see the game reach the heights that other BF games did fun wise we're really praying for them to get rid of the specialists in the regular modes

What does everyone think of the maps? I think Live Fire, Recharge and Bazaar are all going to be awesome comp maps. For the first time in a long time we don't have stretched out maps to accommodate fast sprint and movement abilities.

A good sandbox and settings do matter a lot, but if you have bad maps it doesn't matter right? I'm like yay.

I think Bazaar is actually pretty bad because there are too many unnecessary rooms/corners/objects to hide behind and will need a game mode that directs the attention to certain places like strongholds to really be good. Slayer is definitely going to be bad on it. Recharge is a strongholds map and Live Fire I'm pretty okay with but want to play more stuff on it to see how they feel compared to slayer/strongholds

Live fire is a map I can see being good for oddball. Recharge could maybe also work for Oddball

Bazaar is ass tier. Horrendous for slayer and bases aren't big enough to accommodate spawns for ctf.
