Halo Infinite Discussion

I think a fast BMS of 120% h3 speed with projectile shooting is in order. Although if it’s hitscan again, maybe a little spread when shooting outside red reticule range, or damage drop off? I think of mouse and key on how it won’t be difficult to hit people at large distances just because red reticule is gone(which is usually when the AA is gone no?)
I’m sure 343 will use th pistol again as the utility, but if not then the BR is best bet(as the community hates the DMR) .
I won’t hate 343 if infinite plays like halo 5 mythic though.

What grappling hook?

In the reddit post linked above (alleged Infinite leak) theres a grappling hook and an icon on the HUD

I wonder if the grappling hook will be a core mechanic or a pickup. One of those two options would be kind of interesting, and its not the former.

My guess is that you won’t spawn with it, but it will be readily available for one or more members of your team as a pickup very near your spawn, among other items.

I’m looking at it and it doesn’t really give me that vibe. Gosh I hope it’s not a grapple hook.
edit:gosh I’m blind lmao.

But if 343 plans on keeping spartan abilities they’ll have it as spawned tool. Now I’m wondering how it’ll play like, similar to pathfinder from apex? Or like black ops 4 grapple hook. I wouldn’t completely hate the hook, but would prefer it as some form of equipment.

Most people on that reddit page seem to dislike the idea of the hook. Some defenders sure saying “we don’t know how it’ll play” except we have literally 3 games that give us a solid idea, and tbh I hate it. Pathfinder from apex, black ops 4, andTitan fall 2.

Why can't they just stop adding dumb gimmicks that add nothing to the game lol

It’s fine if it’s modular. I want stuff to get added, so long as it can be removed without consequence. If the maps are designed around you spawning with it, then fuck that noise.

Lol @ the grappling hook idea. After Doom, Titanfall and cod, of course 343 would want to copy it. No doubt it'll be copied shittily as well.

What an utterly uninspired developer.

When I was considering a grappling hook for Halo, the problem I saw was that it was too slow.  You have to fire it, wait for it to hit something, then you can start moving.  Since halo can use Space Magic, why not make it a “gravity grapple” or something that can instantly pull you where you want to go without the need to first impact a surface?  That was the conclusion I eventually came to.

What if there were only certain spots on the map it could work with? Like the lift area of Ivory Tower/Reflection, for example. It would functionally become a Gravity Lift, no?

Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer it not be in the game, but this seems like something that a competent developer could feasibly incorporate in a passable manner. 343's track record doesn't make me feel too confident though.

Seems like a portal gun would be more appropriate for something like that.  Limited to certain surfaces.

All the people who say Master Chief doesn’t need any depth and should just be a husk for the players are to the campaign what sprint fans are to multiplayer. A flat character with no personality traits is objectively bad writing—you can’t defend that, unless you think story in video games doesn’t matter and that every FPS should just be like Doom.

Maybe. I was thinking that in certain spots there's like a special hook and you can only ever grapple to those hooks. Continuing with the Ivory Tower/Reflection example, there would be a hook on the second level and a hook on the third level. I could theoretically see it working with a hook on certain places on Ring 3 for Sanc, considering we tolerate jet packs on the map in Reach.

Yeah fuck portal guns splitgate tried that and it’s unbalanced AF. The gun play is nice but that shit sucks.

Here’s the problem with 343 following trends is they never get it right. This feature is never better in halo.

Who gives a shit? It's a game, not a movie.

Halo 1-3 seemed to do it just fine. You can have good writing without Master Chief becoming an overly emotional basket case halfway through the series.

At what point in Halo 4 was Master Chief an "overly emotional basket case"? He showed a little bit of emotion, which is to say he showed emotion at all, but that's a far cry from normal characters like Cortana. Even Geralt shows more emotion than him, and that's a character who's literally described as being emotionless.

haha rip

I'm still leaning towards the producer leaving 343 to distance herself from the inevitable PR nightmare that H6 will be haha

Oh btw I'm calling a delay

343 really is setting the bar for gaming disaster. They’re being way to secretive. Basically they don’t want to show gameplay right now, because then if the gameplay is unsatisfactory to the masses then people won’t be interested in it. On the other hand by not showing anything until e3 is another shit storm. What do they not plan on showing shit? Are they going to say some bullshit like they were “rushed” if they can’t get certain features in the game?

I've said this before but I have no problem with the lack of content/info so far. Way too much of Halo 5 was revealed before release, to the point that it felt like old news by the time it launched.
