Remember when the Halo 2 BR was going to be single shot when you were zoomed in?

BR starts will bring more viewers, source your ass

I never said this was a fact, holy shit some of you people have issues. I'm saying that it's a real possibility and who could blame 343 at this point for making a big change like this. They have shit for viewers as is.

It's almost like CS:GO isn't the most popular FPS casually and competitively.

But I think everyone should spawn with snipers in H5 cause that's more entertaining.

This is a poor argument. Switching from a magnum to a BR is far from switching to all snipers. And Overwatch actually has the most players now. CS:GO is the best in my opinion though.

But bringing in sniper starts will cause more splash plays for people to watch. Snipes get the most reactions so obviously its more entertaining, therefore it should be considered because this is after all, an entertainment industry.

This would of been cool. Did they say why they scrapped?

If they thought that starting with snipers would get more people watching and playing then they probably would switch to it.

If I had to guess, it would be due to being unable to explain why the 3 round burst is a 4sk, but the single rounds were still a 4sk

Makes sense.

Well now we have a light rifle that hurts more when zoomed.

So we should now have the clear for prototype br

No, because then it wouldn be awful for competitive. Halo is the only game where people defend making the game less competitive for the sake of entertainment, it blows my mind. Even CoD takes out things that are more 'entertaining' to make the game more competitive.

I too like balancing my ESport around bringing in imaginary viewers. Make my game less competitive in hope of bringing in ~100 extra viewers. And make my actual gameplay less exciting for the sake of maybe ~100 people that will "only play BR starts".

If you don't think BR nostalgia is a thing for viewers you're crazy.

If you think that BR starts is going to make a significant change in viewership you are crazy

Never said it would, I'm saying it's not a stretch to think 343 does though.

That's probably because it's the only game putting up the money to be a legit e-sport but still has next to no viewers.

Because the game isn't good

On the BR starts, if people think the LR dominates now they're going to be in for a rude awakening when they're getting 3'd cross map and can only tickle that guy

So make it a 5 shot kill but much longer range.

or keep it 4 shot but make it shoot slightly slower and "Feel" like there is more punch.

or, or, or.

Make the gun be interesting and play well, then make up some BS lore reason as to why after the fact.

CoD made things less competitive to great success with Black Ops 2. That was the game that first introduced scorestreaks, and things like the MMS, which allowed players to literally see through walls, and it was the most popular game by a mile. Games like BO3 and IW kept in specialists, streaks, and inherently broken weapons and perks in the competitive ruleset, all because they thought it would increase viewership. The only reason those games weren't even more of a joke than they already were is because pro's would use gentlemens agreements in scrims and at events, and AM's would mimic those settings.

And at the end of the day, what starting weapon is used going forward with Halo 5 is all but irrelevant. A trash game is a trash game regardless of what weapons are being used.

In the end the competitive settings were pushed. Imagine that.  If I need to be specific, in order to keep the game competitive the players did not use certain things. Shocking I know.

Except they did. Specialists were still used, see through walls sights were still used, akimbo kaps were used for quite some time, etc. Gentlemens agreements were able to quell some of the worst of it, but the overall settings were drastically less competitively viable than they were earlier in the franchise.

They still tried to make the game better. iirc the specialist weren't optional. The players tried to make the game better competitively, and in Halo we want to make the game worse by making it BR starts

The MMS was pretty trash, though. It provided no zoom advantage and I believe it also gave you more recoil and didn't track perfectly.
