Halo World Championship 2018 Teams, Seeds, and Discussion‏

Recommended Posts

I mean, agree to disagree I guess. Calling a game the best jetpack game is like saying Halo 5 is the best game with sprint. And I very much disagree that CoD4 was overrated, it's the pinnacle of the franchise, both casually and competitively IMO. Good SMG's were abundant in CoD4: The Mp5, P90 and 74u were all monsters. And sure the M16 was a beast, but if the standard is guns that are must picks, the M16 wasn't it. There was a pretty decent amount of variety in CoD4. The M16, Ak47, Mp5, P90, 74u, and even snipers in SnD saw pretty regular use. The least variety there ever was in the competitive CoD scene came during Black Ops 1, when the meta was literally 4 Famas's vs 4 Famas's, and starting with any other weapon was knowingly starting at a disadvantage.

Cod 4 is literally just the M16 stopping power and deep impact. They had to do no M16 tourneys because it's the only gun people really use. Competitively the game sucks lol. And casually it has a huge issues with kill times being faster than the actual refresh rate of the game. It's not even close to being good by any standard and is by far the most "who sees who first wins" game in the franchise. Can't forget good ole fragx3 with no flak jacket either or jugg letting you survive snipers. Lol that game is a mess.

Anyone ever have an issue with their hard drive filling up on its own? For example, I'll delete a 50 MB file, then check my remaining space. It'll initially say 50 MB available, but if I check in another 3-4 sec it'll be ~47 MB, and it'll gradually fill up again. I've checked for malware and I'm pretty sure that's not the issue.

Stop torrenting so much porn?

A 1v1 clutch with the bomb planted in round 30 when it's 15-14 doesn't do it for you? Or OT rounds? Genuinely curious, because those situations get my heard pumping and I'm obviously not even playing.

I'm not saying that those situations aren't exciting but when winning the 1v1 means the game keeps going isn't nearly as exciting as a 49-49 or a 5-5 snd in CoD

I don't really watch Halo 5 at all, but has there been a 99-99 strongholds game?  Serious question, I am actually curious about that.

if both teams are at 95-99 its basically next team to to get a 2 cap wins. Close games will often be decided by one big fight at a stronghold towards the end.

I mean I don't know what to tell you. I played variant, and watched a hell of a lot of it from 07-09, and saying the M16 was the only gun people used is simply untrue. I'm not saying it wasn't the most popular, because it was, but all the guns I previously listed were extremely common as well. Also, Frag x3 was banned almost immediately in competitive settings, and Jugg and stopping power literally cancelled each other out. Saying CoD4 is a mess compared to modern CoD titles is just funny. Things like a million cracy killstreaks, OP akimbo secondaries, sitrep pro, things like awareness and tracker in BO3, see through walls vision, motion tracker, the blur glitch, etc.

We're not going to agree on this, and I don't want to have this discussion because I've already had it on reddit more times than I can count.

runescape actually had like 50k viewers earlier today for a tourney

games don't need to be perfect to succeed as an esport, they just have to be popular and "fun to watch"

And this is the first time they didn't fuck the tournament up too - it was incredible to watch.

I watched a couple of matches and even with the cool spectator shit they have added its still an unintelligible clusterfuck of a viewing experience.

When the league's viewership craters its going to scare off some of these big name investors from putting up money for other more deserving esports like CS.

CS to me is much more approachable from a viewer perspective.  It's easily digestible in its simplest form. ROund based. Team A detonates bomb or wipes team B, Team B defuses bomb or wipes Team A. easy. Yet the meta is deep enough that real hardcore fans will have shit to debate and strategize over endlessly.  The objectives are easy to understand in Overwatch too, but that's where the similarities end. CS has shorter rounds and by the nature of the game there is pretty much 0 stalemating. The shorter rounds allow for better analysis by the casters.  Analysis that you can actually understand because what they discuss between rounds just happened a few seconds ago AND you can actually tell what each individual player on the screen is doing. it also allows for better use of replay (the sole reason why football is so popular). Individual player skill can really shine in CS on a much more consistent basis than Overwatch. Almost all "WOW" plays in Overwatch are actually someone using an ult where the computer does half the work.  In CS plays that make you go "holy shit" are just pure skill.

Frankly, i don't like to play CS "the way its mean to be played".  I find competitive CS incredibly boring to play.  But watching CS as a spectator is great.  The ability to capture an audience to watch your game that doesn't even play it is something CS has accomplished and i just don't see overwatch being able to do the same thing, no matter how many pretty bows they put on it.

To me, CS is damned near perfect as a spectator esport. The nature of the round format and the game mode guarantees excellent pacing, with a constant tension and release from set up to execution, even in rushes. That also means that the action is relatively slow and easy to follow on a basic level. And beyond that, the way in which individual players are empowered to completely take over any given round means that any scenario is theoretically winnable, even a 1v5 (though the chances may be remote). The high precision requirement also means that the majority of first person perspectives will be steady and in-control, because pretty much everyone is playing on low DPI and in game sensitivity. And that also means that crazy outplays are fairly obvious displays of mechanical ability to even an inexperienced viewer.

By contrast, Overwatch has borderline incoherent team fights broken up by the attacking team walking back to the objective when they lose the team fight and major shifts in control are dictated by both teams throwing out shiny one button nukes. First person perspectives are dizzying and obnoxious. OW is also the kind of "team" game where you play your role and being down 1-2 players in in a fight pretty much means the fight is over (unless someone pulls their idiotic resurrection ult out of their ass). And the on top of that, you have the fact that payload is just an awful competitive game mode as far as I'm concerned. I was watching yesterday. First team gets the payload past the second check point, but is stopped just short of the end. 2 points on the board. "TEAM 1 WINS" flashes on the giant screens. Second half, team 2 gets the payload past the second check point, but is stopped just short of the end. 2 points on the board. "TEAM 1 WINS!" Uh... What? Oh, because Team 1 got the payload SLIGHTLY further in the first half. A feat which is not represented in their goofy scoring system.

I get why people enjoy playing Overwatch as a casual game and I recognize that it is extremely well made in most respects, but I absolutely do not think it is or ever will be particularly enjoyable as an esport, no matter how much money and talent Blizzard throws at it or how many investors they convince to drop 20 million on OW franchises.

Woah, is Halo Wars 2's community getting tired of 343's shit? I thought they really liked the game and how 343 was handling the game.

Sorry for long post :(

I’m honestly surprised 3 people took the time to even make a tweet about it. Has to be about a third of the player base.

-snip-

I think hw2 is well received, but it was fairly obvious that microsoft wanted to break even at all costs. They released major dlc OUTSIDE of the season pass, which is a huge sin.

T2 should stop what he's doing.

Depends what he says.  If his first video doesn't start with "i would like to apologize for being an ass to casual halo players" and its sincere and makes sense, then his video will be for naught.

could just be your temp file for windows, if you have another hard drive you can move the temp file location and free up space on your main drive.

Nice to see former Halo pros like Karma on Optic and Assault and Echo Fox have success.

You fool! You thought I was dumb enough to not realize that they are different pros with the same name? you are easily bamboozled.

You realize they're just different pros with the same name, right?

Guys this is serious!!!

Pretty sure this is somehow a troll, but my desire to possibly help outweighs my fear of embarrassment....first thing that comes to mind is google drive or Dropbox or some similar programs that automatically sync files in the background.

Seriously the guy needs to pull his head out of his ass and start to realize that antagonizing the casuals is not going to help the situation and you can tell by the end of that tweet that whatever video makes is probably only going to make matters worse.
