It very promising that pro league finals is an open event. This means the only invite only things we will likely see this year is worlds and pro league

I think that's the way to do it. Online for seeding only, worlds as the only invitational LAN. Season 3-4 and next HWC will be lit if 343 continues learning from their mistakes.

If they want to make worlds a halo convention, with cosplay contests, booths, merch, game reveals etc. they should also make it an open event and have the final qualifications take place there.

i don't know now. Worlds being an invitation event makes sense since it's the event and you want to showcase the best. I don't know of another game that has worlds as an invitational but halos a bit different since most of the top 16 are NA

CoD has 32 teams at their worlds. Mlg made Nationals bigger too

I'm just saying if they want to make the event bigger turn it into a whole spectacle. Plus it would be much better to have teams qualify on lan for the lcq than to have them.online.

I think removing ARs is gonna help Ninja a ton, I swear he would use AR in the worst situations. Also helps his playstyle in terms of rushing and getting caught by AR close range. I def think this change will shake things up a bit, not gonna turn everything on its head, but may cause teams to completely change their playstyles.

Yeah agree with u here.

Ninja has THE worst AR so this will benefit him a tonne!!!

Think it will make him play more as well.

The guy is such a natual talent at video games and ita great having him still around

I honestly haven't seen much bitching? Just striking the hammer while it's hot. Mostly just talk about how to improve the game or scene and little to no negativity. I could be wrong but I honestly might just be blind to it at this point if it's actually that bad I haven't seen anything.

I'm not against people getting money outside of the top 8, but I'm also saying that pros that are on the lower half of the professional scene and placings really aren't making much as is. You guys can bring up orgs and other stuff but in reality they're probably breaking even. At worlds which is BY FAR the biggest tourney of the year Str8 got 4th. 4th at the world championship and they got 12.5k each, and for 4th at st louis 1k each. Unless you're at the very top with how prize money has been, and mainly how it's been distributed you're making chump change. Basically outside of worlds the money isn't sustainable as is for ALL Pros.

Last worlds we won and got 500k, 50% of the pool and since we won I'm loving it. But tbh I just don't know who makes these decisions but it could be done much much better.

Think what you want but top 16 is too far of a spread the money in my opinion, top 12 wouldn't be too bad as long as someone doesn't make it terrible. Money should be sustainable for professionals first, and as of right now it really isn't lol. Teams who are getting 5th-8th and not making pro league finals are making barely anything, only worlds gives them a chance to make anything decent.

The problem with this argument is that improving the distribution for top 8 and paying 9-12 aren't mutually exclusive concepts.

The amount of money people here are suggesting should go to 9-12 would hardly put a dent in what the top 8 make. It certainly wouldn't be the difference between 8th place becoming sustainable.

If the problem is the distribution of prize money, then we should fix the distribution of prize money. We shouldn't be cutting AMs out of a couple hundred bucks, pretending that doing so would help pros find sustainability at the lower end of top8.

The last 2 opens distributed top 8 like this.

1) 20k 40%

2) 10k 20%

3) 6k 12%

4) 4k 8%

5-6) 3k 6%

7-8) 2k 4%

World's:

1) 500k 50%

2) 200k 20%

3) 100k 10%

4) 50kdan5%

5-6) 35k 3.5%

7-8) 20kdan2%

9-12 10kdan1%

these percentages would never allow top 8 to be sustainable, regardless of top 16 getting paid. Paying top 16 would not make top 8 any less sustainable, as current trends would give them a negligible percentage.

If folks want everything in the top 8 to be sustainable, then they need to push for a less hyperbolic distribution (or magically larger pools), not for fewer people to get paid.

Do we know how many teams showed up to the gfinity open @@Onset?

I think the new settings may bring a few people back but its hard to say. Location will be a big factor, as will prize pool. I realli like the idea someone mentioned earlier (cant remember who) of specialised packs for each event so you know what you are contributing to.

the wiki says 28 so that's a good sign http://halo.esportswikis.com/wiki/Gfinity_London_2017

should be more teams with the new settings too

Removing ARs helps EVERYONE. The general level of gameplay is going to be higher because ARs were the most braindead thing in Halo.

Money towards Open events has been improving but when theres this much of a difference the system hasn't been made right. It seems like 343/HCS tried to make Halo a bigger esport with money rather than actually building a player/fan base. Things such as single elim and pro league make it seem like they saw the tier 1 esports and tried to copy their structure for halo without building the basics first and building off what made halo popular during the mlg days

It was a total miscalculation based on the success of the 2016 world's season.

They had a season of nothing but invitationals and online tournaments, had excellent viewership, and thought they could ride that relatively cheap wave for the remainder of halo 5.

It didnt take much of pro league S1 before it became clear to them this ideology was a flawed, but have just been taking half measures to improve the situation - much of that is clearly because of ESLs influence.

"one of the most embarrassing esports events ever" was the quote. Worlds had a subpar venue, production was great, in fact almost everything else was great other than a smallish delay in the finals (anyone who watches other esports knows tech delays are inevitable, in fact I'd say Worlds had a good showing from that standpoint). Aside from the games themselves it was forgettable at worst, definitely not in the category for the worst Halo events let alone worst esports events.

This is what a true calamity looks like, 'Gaming Paradise': visa issues, food poisoning players, 12 hour delays, tournament runs out of money, multiple parties not getting paid (including accom), cancelled mid-tournament, police involvement.

I remember trying to watch this live. Crazy! I remember thinking, this is brings AGL delays to another lvl :p Twitter and HLTV went nuts while this unfolded.
