@@Cooper Just saying, the roster isn't stacked at all; playing above their talents. Dominant front 7 and that's essentially it. Cam balling out this year.

And yeah, Rivers is the MVP of empty calorie stats. Not his fault though since the Chargers defense is straight dumpster fire.

They have the best corner in the league and argueably the best front 7. You cant run on them. Your top target is removed and all the extra coverage that norman frees up rolls over on secondary targets. This defense is deadly and is quite frankly underrated because thier offense stalls for large portions of most games. Which puts pressure on the D.

Newton sits just above %50 completions. Ranks 20th in yards and if you remove on abnormal, splash game has 15 tds against 9 picks.

How can you give the MVP to a QB of a team that wins predominatly with defense, running game and special teams?

Im honestly not 100% convinced newton is the MVP of his own team. Let alone the entire league.

What is Rivers the MVP of?

I thought about you last night when I saw the field goal returned on SportsCenter.

Carrying a team to the worst record in their division and third worst in the conference.

MVP!

If you replace rivers with a competent back up they are a 0 win team.

Replace newton with a competent back up and they still win the division.

No quarterback will make that Chargers team good.

I just think Cam brings a certain type of energy that can't be measured by any box score. He is putting that franchise on his shoulders right now and deserves to be in the MVP conversation because of it.

His effect on the running game is definitely a plus but it doesn't propel him anywhere near Brady or Palmer. You cannot just ignore Newton's passing stats. They are a direct reflection of the fact that he's not a good passer.

You're right. No Qb would make the chargers good. Rivers is doing as much with that team as any Qb could. Including Brady. Which is why Rivers is a legit MVP candidate. Though he won't win.

How is he putting them on his shoulders? They are arguably the most talent rich team in the entire league.

They are not a talent rich team. Dave Gettleman's only way to grab great players these past 2-3 seasons is through the draft because the previous GM fucked the team over by giving Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams like $50+ mil in guarantees. They've been bargain-bin shopping since 2013.

Patriots, Seahawks, Bengals, Cardinals, Eagles (fail), Cowboys, Bills, Jets, Dolphins (always win the offseason), Steelers, Broncos, Vikings have more talent than the cap-strung Panthers.

The Panthers WR1 is Ted Ginn, just overflowing with talent

The panthers have on defense

All Pro CB and MLB

Pro bowl caliber DT, LB and DE

Show me a more talent rich defense outside of denver.

I'm talking about the full roster.

On defense, you have Kuechly, Thomas Davis, Star and Charles Johnson. A lot of players have surprisingly stepped up/broke out this year (Josh Norman, Kawann Short, backup LB A.J. Klein) and Gettleman made shrewd cost-effective acquisitions by signing Roman Harper and trading for Jared Allen (he does have some juice left), but they're not considered a talent-rich team.

Cam's WRs: Ted Ginn (return man, at best 4th WR), 2nd-round Funchess (who's finally coming on with only a 1/4 of the season left) and two journeyman in Cotchery and Kevin Norwood.

Cam makes that team go on offense. They'd be an absolute mess without all of his talents on that side of the ball.

They are great defensively, but so are the Broncos, Cards, Jets and plenty of other teams that have lost plenty of games.

The Panther and Cam deserve the credit.

Maybe his yardage and completion percentage is down because he has a bunch of no names on offense.

Pff ranks the panthers oline at #4. Olsen is a top 3 TE. Stewart is a good back and tolbert is the best fb in the league.

The only spot they're weak at is at WR(and only due to injury). Which again isnt a big deal because newton isn't a good outside the hash passer anyways.

So

Top 3 defense

Top 4 oline

Top 3 TE

Great backs

Thats a stacked team.

Yeah... the talent is still average on offense though; OL playing above their talent. Probably helps when Cam extends plays too. Jonathan Stewart is great when healthy, but always has nagging injuries. Mike Tolbert isn't exactly a great RB maybe outside of the redzone/goal-line.

Olsen is a top5 TE in a league that doesn't have many great TEs, but yeah that's it.

Your arguments are wack.

honestly who cares we all know Brady is winning MVP, this is just like 2010 when Mike Vick was "in the conversation" but we all know how this ends.

Chiefs are gonna beat the Pats in the first playoff game and Cardinals are gonna beat the Panthers in the NFC Championship.

Steelers vs Cardinals rematch

so basically Cooper's argument = Cam is not good because his defense is good

No. Im not saying hes not good. Im saying hes not as VALUEABLE to his team as players like tom brady.
