I hated H3. Quit for all of 08. Barely played in 09, decided to go to a few events with kids from high school. Was gonna quit Halo forever but decided to go to chicago combine with high school friends for one last event, and I had like a top 5 #kd and got 5th or something in the FFA then GMM picked me up.

The only reason I kept playing was because Adrenaline and Swift Kill told me I'd be on a top AM team within a week lmao

H3 made me quit too. It's baffling all the love it gets.

I signed up to mlg early in '05 because I beat ogre 2 on ascension in team slayer. Lol

First event was Philly 05. Teamed with I got cats, malfunction, and some kid who was really proud he knew t2 because he pays him for gaming lessons. Still can't believe my parents let me go by myself when I was 16. I didn't even have a place to stay. I crashed at this guy named aubrius hotel Friday, then stood up all night saturday until I left Sunday after the tourney.

GB Amplified 1v1s were probably some of the most rage inducing games I have ever played.

I will say though at one point during H3 I played like 100 GB 1v1 matches, and it really improved my gameplay.

I was in the top  on the ladder with dudes like Ninja, Nate, Mac, Aye Rab, CRICKCITY(kill me), etc.

If anyone remembers "Aye Rab" he was probably the best player I have ever seen, like current Formal levels. But he quit randomly after H3.

I remember matching that 4 of a Kind roster in GB and barely winning the series 2-1 and I thought Aye Rab was definitely the best on the team. Would be interesting to see everyone now if H3 levels of competition and involvement were still going on today.

I'd type like a whole history but I only have a phone atm and thats rough

The game was pretty shit online and even on LAN, I think it was just how fun and stupid the scene was that kept me around for a while

  • Born in 2000 and started playing Halo in 2004 so my memory is a bit fuzzy from the early days.

See some of my friends a bit older than me playing H2 right after it came out and was hooked. Got an xbox with HCE for Christmas (I was 4 so not like I cared which game it was). Ended up getting H2 sometime after that too.

Was a campaign kid, always wanting to do coop stuff not really into pvp

Didn't even know online was a thing until I played some H3 customs with my older cousin. Parents wouldn't let me get xbox live.

Fast forward to 2011 I finally get xbox live, still not into pvp much and I mostly play customs and infection on Reach.

H4 launches. I'm super excited. Game sucks, even a 12 year old campaign kid could see that.

Buy and XB1 for MCC, MP is broken but I'm a campaign kid so I didn't really care.

Sometime around then I see an H2A LAN on twitch and tune in. Ew tryhards

Around the time H5 starts getting hyped as super competitive and the beta comes out, I start getting interested in comp Halo.

Start tryharding in MCC MM and when H5 comes out I start watching streamers and reading into the history of Halo esports

Can anyone remember the first time you got shit on so bad that it literally gave you the motivation to get better? Mine was losing to Ant, Solder187, and Chino in Halo 2 Team Slayer on Foundation. Halo 2 was the real glory days.

Sorry this is so long. I honestly left a ton of stuff out.

  • My mom bought me Halo CE while I was in third grade when I had my tonsils taken out. We played Co-Op and beat the game. When we got the the light bridge in the 2nd level we were literally whispering to each other for some reason thinking the enemies would hear us. That's how revolutionary the game was.
  • Summer 2004 my county in NJ hosted a rugby tournament and we had a really good Canadian team fly down. Was my first and only 16 man LAN on CE with 4 xboxes and 4 tv's. I was good but didn't get a reality check until H2.
  • 2005 Halo 2 comes out and became the first game in my school that a majority of my friends played. Ditched them to play with my RBS3 buddies as we started to dominate Major Clan Match
  • Finally found 3 skilled players in my city, joined 2 of them on the clan "Killing Sprees" who was up on the bungie leaderboards.
  • Didn't hear about MLG until MTV's Best Gamer on Campus with T2 and Zyos. Started playing these settings with friends but didn't know about the forums yet.
  • Lurked the forums for a while until 06 where I found out about MLG New York. Spectated then signed up on the forums after.
  • Learned about NJ Halo from the forums. Went with the best players in my city, won a round and got absolutely massacred in the 2nd. Teammates lost motivation while I was motivated to improve.
  • Was in Orlando in 06 for a vacation coincidentally when MLG was taking place. Spectated again.
  • Shattered my leg playing Rugby and thus started my actual grind to being a competitor where I could put dumb hours into the game.
  • Played FFA's for weeks straight with Heinz before he ever went to an event. He'd finish with 20+ kills more than 2nd place almost every game. Remember going nuts cheering him on for his first event.
  • Went to meadowlands 07 like an idiot on meds with locals and got destroyed. Didn't compete at an event till meadowlands 08.
  • Was like 24th for the gambattles MLG opener qualifiers. Had the team pass reserved and our team broke up 2 weeks before the event. It was RyoNeSs, Obiii, WhyYaCryin and myself. RyoNess and Obi picked up T for Techn9ne and i THINK Gunshiii. I went with J Mos Def, xPatey and OMG Blaze. We destroyed Tensor in warm ups.
  • At the same event I watched my boy iMilk from NJ upset I think Assault to place 13th. Was the first time I ever saw an MLG check.
  • Made it out to Orlando but coached some friends I knew down there but they let me play in the first round which we won.
  • Between 08 and 09 I went to many many LANs in North NJ like 5 minutes from my house. We'd have good NJ talent like Midge, Polak, Pistol, Fielder Mode, Milk, Puckett, Nexy, DMAQ, Killa KC, and a slew of others. One time Milk got so drunk he puked on kamandaboom's xbox LOL.
  • Went to meadowlands 09 with friends, losers 2nd round. Probably the worst locals I've ever played with. Had no real interest in Halo 3 after becoming active on XBC playing H1.
  • Continued playing H1 until Halo Reach. Literally gave reach to a friend for free and gave up on Halo and found an arcade game called Monday Night Combat that I played competitively for 5 years.
  • Got into Shadowrun in 2012
  • Started playing nothing but obscure skill based FPS games until Halo 5 came out.
  • Was convinced to get H5 by a friend who was a top Shadowrun player. Tried making a team with him and another top shadowrun player and grinded the whole first season in what turned out to be a complete waste time.
  • Lost interest in H5 again, and started focusing more on playing Halo CE. Seems like I always end up where I started. That's the circle of life.

@@Elamite I never forget anything Shadowrun  :simms:

I remember that MLG Chicago combine. I thought you were going to walk back to Michigan after your loss in losers you were so pissed because I believe one of your teammates goosed in a slayer, but you only lossed by a few kills. LOL

Joining in with the nostalgia stuff we have going on around here today - I wrote this about 18 months ago. It's not a complete run down, by any means, but it (inadvertently) goes into my Halo history a bit.

 http://teambeyond.net/forum/topic/8838-my-passion-is-dwindling-an-open-letter-to-the-halo-community/?do=findComment&comment=388705

Of note:

Since this I have grown to love watching H5 and, while I still think there are many things 343/ESL could/should be working on, I have rediscovered my passion and feel we are headed in the right direction.

I love this community. Especially Team Beyond. Your collective enthusiasm and knowledge is unmatched.

LOL yeah man thats pretty spot on. I remember Matt Excelz and mistretta vividly. I think midge and mistretta were involved with that Orlando fiasco that set off the smoke detector that got Karma and a few others in trouble. I like the list you put together of NJ and NY kids too lol so many warriors in H3.

So you teamed with Axman? He was from Jersey if I remember and he was pretty cool. If so did you not have an E in your name at that point? I feel like I remember a Saucy, not Saucey.

Oh come on @@CyReN, I thought I'd never have to hear "you're mad as hell you aren't matt excelz" ever again in my life. I'm getting PTSD flashbacks.

NES kid (showing my age a little) Will be brief.

Found out about CE when my friend brought it into work and everyone on the shift would play for hours on end during the downtime (we worked on graveshift so no one was around). This went on for almost a couple years and eventually the guys that worked on dayshift started doing it until a higher up came in and busted them, lol. That ended the party for everyone.

Continued to play on XBC until H2 came out and then continued on Live up until now.

I think this is also my first post in this thread. How you doin'. :simms:

I hated H3.

I thought i like Halo 3 at the time, but going back to play now (yes on 360) is straight up aids.  I would rather play Reach than Halo 3 now, but in my memory halo 3 is sooooo much better

I remember when I played Halo 2  at launch. WHILE IN COLLEGE.

LOL.  Same here. Friends at college brought the game back to the dorm right after launch and thats when my life changed forever.

LOL Jordan man.... Element.. Bone Chilla, zghetto, Reese, Xinity,

Then you had NJ/CT kids, like Twylight, Phurium, Phaint, Aptitude, Fraguh, Gratitude, Russo

damn the nostalgia. Really the golden age of Halo. So much competition. Ghetto played like the best, easily the best out of all of them. Reliable was really really good too. Everytime I seen "oh so reliable" in the playlist I would go "ah man here we go"

el town was pretty huge too. thought he was always gonna be an online kid with xpulzion and bioshock. then he started placing top 2 lol. Dont think anyone saw that coming

Anyone remember napkin or xlek? kids were the biggest stats ever but good lowkey.
