Sword on Coliseum CTF is a bad idea. Coli CTF demanded of a team the performance of an order of operations (viz. controlling sniper and/or rockets --> controlling snipe area --> controlling enemy cave --> pinch and collapse --> pull flag and escort.)

 

The introduction of sword means that a player can pull a flag and, thanks to the speed boost, get across the map in no time (literally to your bridge in a matter of seconds) with essentially no organization or regard for the order of operations that makes the map interesting and worthy of competition.

I know Snipedown said the Caster should be 2 clips but I stopped watching.

How are people actually defending this in any sort of way?

 

Riptide:

The map would be improved massively by just removing the storm rifles, but that doesn't mean that the core structure of the map isnt just awful. You essentially have 3 different maps in one big area. It's rigid and has long corridors and sharp corners which just encourages camping mad boring gameplay. Most of the gameplay on riptide happens in about 1/3 of the map. It's fucking awful.

 

Overgrowth:

Obviously improved after they changed the power weapons, but it still has many of the same issues riptide has. Tight corridors and small lines of sight. I also hate the railgun, but that's just me.

Riptide is a broken map, with terrible design.

Looks like the next Arena map will be similar to the inside of that new Firefight map that has the mech grunt. Has potential.. but 343.

I really hope everyone gives Tyrant Assault and Overgrowth Strongholds a chance. I'm so bored of the current rotation.

Did we not reach the consensus they were absolutely awful last time they were in the playlist?

I just got my new Benq rl2455hm and was ready to grind some arena this weekend, but then they put Riptide and Overgrowth back in :mj:

The Pro's are such in a  crappy position now, there are big issues with settings that were previously played and now they have to fight 343i over these(even worse) settings when there are bigger concerns to be addressed(radar being #1). 

 

This sucks.

Assault V1 was pathetic. V2 might be decent. Also, Overgrowth Strongholds V1 wasn't exactly horrible, and the fact that they had 8 pro players fly out to test it and get it right might mean that they made a good gametype.

 

In general, I think that 343 throws so much pure garbage at us that we are quick to judge each new gametype/map that they offer us, and our opinions of the gametypes that might not be so bad are negatively influenced by the garbage heap that it's included in. I just want people to approach these gametypes objectively and judge it purely on the basis of whether the more skilled team wins and whether it is fun to play. We shouldn't just say "rah rah no sightlines" and have that be the end of discussion.

 

Except for Riptide. Riptide cannot be saved.

Exactly. People hated Eden in the beta, but I would guess it's one of the more popular maps now. Same with Regret.

The firefight sanghelios map looks fantastic. Easily my favorite map aesthetically in the game.

Went from Diamond 5 to Diamond 3 over the last 8 games(1-7) and was still getting consistently matched with Onyx and Champ players. It was always some high ranks teaming with some super low ranks.

As a spectator of Halo only, I have to say I do like when they change things up on the maps.  The idea of the meta of a game shifting, and various playstyles becoming stronger and weaker is what keeps eSports interesting.  Otherwise you are just watching the same thing over and over again.   So I do hope to see new and interesting things in the upcoming HCS Season.  

 

That said, I do wish we had at least 1 more good map that was as good as anything we had in Halo 3.

I think I'm just tired of human/industrial aesthetics, wish we had more Forerunner and Sanghelios maps.

I hope Hecz sees the opportunity in front of him. As far as I know Eco, Danoxide, Naded, and eL town are without an org. Hecz should give up his league spot and get them under OpTic. IMO he's given Maniac a lot of time and it hasn't paid off. Plus Maniac can go back being BtH with aPG and Ace lmao.

 

Edit: I think that team could contend for top 4 maybe 3. Imagine OpTic Halo a top 3 team.
