Body Language: Phil/Bonnie

Recommended Posts

Anyone else know what to make of that mid-event interlude? Because honestly, I'm stumped.

First off Phil looks like he just crawled out of an alley after a months-long bender. Seriously looked like he capped those jeans off a Skid Row vagabond. Then Bonnie - head of the franchise at the heart of the event - is sporting jeans and a t-shirt for what is supposed to be the premier Tournament Championship. What would the consensus think if Roger Goodell showed up to the Super Bowl sporting similar attire? They'd think it was an unimportant event.

As for the hands in the pockets business? What in the name of all professionalism? They looked like nervous schoolchildren doing show & tell for the first time. Phil moves his mouth like a drunk/ventriloquist while Bonnie speaks. Bonnie ascribes militaristic qualities to Josh (fearless leader - lol). Both of their faces express a deep sadness and they did little-nothing to instill any genuine excitement. And their discussion about million+ dollars almost seems condescending coming from them - three millionaires.

Or maybe I'm misreading... Any other thoughts on that awkward intermission?

looking too far into it. all gaming execs are awkward to some degree on stage, E3, conferences etc. unlike others, microsoft and 343 aren't big on the personality department..also on that roger goodell comment, John Lasseter is the chief creative officer of pixar, walt disney animation and disney toons, yet he still dresses like he's vacationing in the 80's.

Welcome to 2016. "Professionalism" is defined differently by each industry... you've got a West Coast based gaming studio run by tech giant Microsoft... casual is a part of the culture.

He sports an overtly funky shirt at hundred-million dollar budget premieres. Still, all photos seem to show him wearing a suit: appropriate attire for the "epic scale" of the event. He's certainly not twiddling his thumbs in pockets.

They were reading the Halo 5 Discussion thread before heading out on stage :kappa:

They probably read the MCC thread and bailed out lol

That's how they always act. It is gaming after all. I would have thought they'd be more professional for the finals though.

I think you're over-analyzing it.

The gaming industry has always been lax about things like this.

It's entertainment, not enterprise.

So by your logic, the head of the franchise is completely irrelevant?

How that person conducts themselves at an arguably important event for the series is also irrelevant?

And how that person's boss - the head of an entire gaming platform conducts themselves at such a milestone event - is also irrelevant?

/s

Their appearance and behavior are worth mentioning because.. frankly, it's worth mentioning.
