  1. So I know this is a topic that has been coming up recently. A lot of people are starting to wonder if ricochet can be tweaked to be a competitive gametype, especially if it can be used to recreate assault. I'm here to tell you it can be done but there are 2 big differences 1) throwing the ball 2) no bomb arm time For those interested in using their own maps to play assault the trick is this: if you look at pitfall's ricochet map variant the hill marker is used as the endzone in ricochet. It has two labels 1) rico_endzone 2) rico_hoop. The endzone marks the hill as a scoring zone to run the ball in. The hoop marks the hill to throw the ball in. By removing the hoop game type label the hill becomes a run it in only scoring zone. So you can throw the ball through the endzone with no effect. I've taken several maps, likely with more to come including v5 skyline, a pitfall variant bringing back MLG the Pit, a sanctuary remake adjusted in size for halo 4, and a solace variant that plays solace sideways (I still hold this is a viable map if forged right. the red base and bottom of the map are completely blocked off and the middle of the map utilizes crates). I've adjusted the settings to best resemble Assault, no motion tracker, br starts, 1pt for running the ball in, and waypoint is disabled for ball carrier for the enemy team. This brings back that flag running vs sneaky flag feeling. You can throw the ball and the enemy will see the waypoint on the ball. But if you hold the ball and run it you can try to sneak into the enemy base. I've played it several times and although it doesn't feel like a true assault gametype it is still pretty fun. The gametype and several compatible variants are in my fileshare. I personally enjoy playing this gametype so I hope other people can have as much fun playing it as I have.
