These are pretty fair assessments, I'd say... while I've been pretty okay with the automatic scoping in the past (I haven't personally seen it as THAT big of an issue), I could definitely get behind these... although I do think the 5sk Magnum feels fantastic as it is. What makes it weird to me is that the DMR is also a 5sk... You have this big "tank" of a rifle doing essentially the same damage-output as a pistol... where if it was say a much slower RoF, 3sk "mini-sniper" style of weapon, a higher RoF 5sk starting sidearm starts to make a lot more sense and feel a lot less redundant.
  2. Scout rifles FTW... was playing a match on Midtown last night and got a quick Triple kill at range. It's super hard to take on multiple opponents though... seems like any decent multi-kills are entirely situational and dependent on team pushes. As you guys have said, rock-paper-scissors gun-play in MP... every time you win a 1v1 it's like you're 1-2 shots from death. Kind of annoying in that regard... As for the story/campaign though, I don't really play many video games besides Halo, and a few racing and sports games on occasion. I've dabbled with Siege and played my fair share of D1... but D2 so far, it's probably the most fun I've had with a Campaign mode since the OG Halo trilogy. It's hard to explain why, but the presentation just feels so much better this time around and the game actually has a plot. Gorgeous graphics and locales... the gameplay is obviously great. I played a solid 6-8 hours straight last night. Bungie's still got it... the game is addicting. Just my brief impressions and/or "review" so far...
  3. Agreed, but I always enjoyed the Chess-match style stalemates that high-level Guardian matches provided, especially really tight, end of the game scenarios... it basically came down to who made the first mistake. Just my opinion though...
  4. Not updating H2A MP with H3A content... (another) missed opportunity. Imagine how sick an updated Guardian or Construct would look in the H2A engine.
  5. I'd like to see custom options for aim-assist and bullet-mag tuning, especially with the classic playlist coming out... values are way too high for classic Halo.
  6. I still have trouble knowing Blue base from Red base without looking, or having a visual indicator on-screen...
  7. Seriously man, they have a serious "big boy" complex or something... as if they think the "work" they do over there is so important. You'd think they were getting paid for it with how strictly they police the forums there. The absolute worst-managed forum I've ever seen on the Internet. They've built a safe-space community... anyone who challenges their noob ideals or criticizes 343 (not a bad thing) gets banned... it's what the franchise needs. Put the developer in-check... it's the only way things are going to get better, and there they are over there, filtering feedback and thus enabling the same faulty 343 practices! It's such a shame man. Really... that Halo has come to this. Bunch of trolls...
  8. Your point about crouching at corners with auto's isn't so much a problem with the auto's as much as it is with the map design IMO... I agree, it is an issue... but if there weren't so many claustrophobic areas and blind corners, over-segmentation of maps... those freaking little closets in the tree houses in Fathom, being prime examples... easily abusable instances of map geometry, we would see that the effectiveness of auto's would also diminish. Map design issue...

  10. You also have to think about the stretching of maps though, due to Spartan Abilities... If autos were to remain as they did in older Halo's, they be much more ineffective, relatively speaking. Given the kind of game H5 is, it was a good choice to implement the zoom to auto's... same reason the Sword has the extended zoom lunge mechanic. If the game environment is scaled up, the close range weapons need something to compensate if they are to remain as viable as they were in the smaller, tighter knit environments of past titles. It's really not game-breaking at all like some people make it out to be, especially with descope and the abundance of high-range weapons in the H5 sandbox. I haven't had any issues with the design of the auto's... if anything, after the H5 Beta, they're better balanced and don't have nearly as tight of spread as they did before. I mean, you could melt someone with an SMG halfway across Midship in the beta. It's much better now than it used to be and compliments the H5-style of Halo, all things considered...
  11. Any MP map design positions open? I'm in the aerospace & aviation business and wouldn't mind trying my hand at game design if the right opportunity arose... I've been interested in learning more about the industry as of late. The creative possibilities are endless...
  12. Played 4 or 5 matches earlier... I really dig it. Took a few games to realize but the mid-air dash while floating around as a Warlock is a nice touch... you're not just stuck hanging there anymore. Feels more competitive than #1 so far too.   13. So Double XP is finally back and rather than using it to hype up the return of Oddball, now Oddball is gone (again) and Double XP is on Covie Slayer and Super Fiesta?? No 343, I will not play your garbage playlists! lol... It's like they're trying so hard to get people to love their ideas. Meanwhile, Oddball should've never been absent from the game, and it might as well just not exist again... I mean, what are they gaining from withholding content? Staple content, no less... It's just madness. Leaving players with a shell of a Halo game, expecting these timed releases to keep people satisfied, when the game isn't even in a satisfactory state to begin with.

I'll prob get negged for this but I honestly feel that there were too many outside factors working against it for H5 to really be given a chance to be seen as a solid (MP entry at least) to the series or not... I mean, before it we had 3 games that were essentially a disgrace (some more than others) to the Halo name... the damage was done. H5 did bring the series back to an 1:1 Arena format/formula... definitely a key part of OG trilogy gameplay and a good move, it just expanded on it by adding new abilities. Whether you welcome these abilities or not, that's another issue, but the point is, there was already a divided, jaded fanbase out there by the time the game rolled around. Sales and population numbers were already on the steep decline. Perceptions of the series definitely affected... The one thing I do know, if I'm being honest with myself, I'd much rather play H5 than I would Reach or H4. It's fundamentally more in line with the classic Halo games than the 2 previous entries. Not saying there isn't some cheese from time to time, but a lot of deaths can at least be prevented with some smart decision making, effective team play, and outshooting/outplaying opponents, which isn't fundamentally any different from the first 3 games. I've personally enjoyed some of the expanded layer of meta attributed to the movement as well, and how it can affect 1v1's. It gives me new ways to improve as a player and I like new challenges. And there isn't any random, unavoidable instant-camo, wall-hack, jet-pack, armor lock, different-loadout-BS taking place... or "roll-the-dice" weapon/power-up acquisitions. That alone makes the game infinitely more enjoyable to me. It's just you vs. the other guy... But again, the damage was already done... lots of external problems. But now we see the game's internal problems as well, which is why H6 absolutely needs to be better. It's "do or die" time... and I think with the recent PR coming out of 343, they know this. Refreshing to see...
  17. Lol, I figured as much... I can understand that. I think some of that can be attributed to (tight knit) map design and the resulting campy AR gameplay, or the careless Sprinting/Spartan Charge combo around blind corners... It certainly doesn't help matters.
  18. Well right, that's what I'm saying... H5 plays well enough IMO, there just isn't much variety in game modes/playlists, or within the map design to keep things all that interesting. Some of the maps ARE decent, but when The Rig feels a little like Plaza, which half the layout is basically used to complete Overgrowth and feels recycled... when Torque is nearly the same as Stasis minus some modified sightlines... when Tyrant basically feels like a remix of Mercy. Regret is Truth with a different middle... When you don't find WZ or Breakout enjoyable, and BTB maps are cheap Forge maps with frame-drop issues, you're stuck with the same 1-3 Arena game modes... man, things get stale REAL quick. That's why the segregated/rehashed content pools are not a good decision... you get stripped down experiences, no matter what you prefer to play.
  19. Ahh, the days when we had a complete and polished, functional Halo game... not plagued by excessive microtransaction content, extra fluff, repetitive environments and poor content creation structures... no missing game modes... Good times lol.

Man, Waypointers sure do get salty when you try to point out all the ways where H5 is subpar lol... as if 343 didn't have SEVERAL areas where they couldn't have managed time and resources better in the production of the game (which is still lacking in a few areas to this day). The fact that there's so much rushed/rehashed and segregated MP content is sufficient evidence of this alone... and they don't see it. So someone goes over there to challenge their perception of the status quo and they get so mad lol. As if H5 is the perfect game and has no issues whatsoever. Now, unrelated, but I'm temp banned over there AGAIN (along with several other users) for simply (constructively) reporting issues I experienced following the June 20 hot fix... ON the dedicated hot fix thread! There's literally a PAGE+ of users with flagged posts and temp bans. Poisonous environment... power hungry troll moderators, and a community of enablers, asking for more of the same of what H5 offers, as if 343's design practices were perfectly OK with this game. Yet, idk about you all, but I can't hardly even play 3 matches anymore without the game getting boring... Shame too, because even when the core gameplay is the best we've had since H3 (IMO), the content (or lack thereof) gets so stale, so quick... but man, it's so great that someone spent all that time modeling up new armor sets that I'll never even look at. Sad that the general community has come to this, where lore and armor sets and cosmetic fluff is more important to people than the gameplay experience itself and attributed content... Absolutely insane. Meanwhile the quality, polish, and perception of the series continues to dwindle...

  23. I think that post-balancing and heavy aim updates, the Sniper is BETTER... but that isn't saying much either... it's still very easy to use with heavy magnetism. A thrust should absolutely negate a sniper shot, but half the time the bullet hits the target anyway... not good. It needs to reward accurate shots, not give roundabout kills.
