  1. Maybe this finally puts that quote from Frankie about "building on Halo 5" to rest. It was ambiguous to begin with if I remember correctly (not even sure he was implying future Halo games would be based on H5), but an all-new engine is basically opposite of iterating on the previous entry, right? Still disappointed that we know nothing about the next Halo game except the title. But the blog post and general feel of that trailer has me a little bit more optimistic than I had been previously.

  5. I hope you're right about seeing in 4 days. I expect we'll see some campaign-themed teaser but I'd be pleasantly surprised if we learned anything solid about the multiplayer side of the next Halo game at E3. Like NavG said earlier in the thread, I'm just waiting to see if it's time to give up on a old hobby at this point.
  6. Skyrim is one of the best reviewed games of all time. The system doesn't fit Halo, I agree with you. But the most successful games going today all have that model (or something resembling it) in common. What I was ultimately getting at is that I have pretty low confidence that 343 could even pull that model off if it did fit Halo. The updates for Halo 5 were few and far between, the cosmetics are terrible, the DLC maps are awful.. none of these things imply that a true service model would work out even if they planned it well. That being said, I am fine with an attempt at it if that's what they want to do moving forward. Halo clearly needs something and I don't think just a return to classic gameplay is the solution to all of the problems. But if they move to a service model it at least forces their hand regarding updates and new content and I think that's a good start, especially if they could improve over time.
  7. Some of this isn't relevant to a shooter game at all. Champion reworks are pretty specific to MOBA and wouldn't really apply to Halo in any meaningful way I can conceive. There are no "Yasuo mains" in Halo for those champ-by-champ changes to affect. As for the perks (I think you're talking about runes here), that was a significant update to the game and it took place during the preseason after Worlds to iron out kinks before the new ranked season began. I don't think many of the changes to League are "flipped on its head" type of change. The game is very different over time, but most of the changes have been incremental with the exception of some truly big changes that happen during preseason. Just to touch on your second to last paragraph: I don't know if Halo would work at all on the service model. Weapon skins and armor customization are pretty simplistic and I can't imagine they alone would drive an economy around a game comparable to MOBA/Fortnite skins. You constantly interact with your player model in League and Fortnite and so you get some mileage out of skin purchases, but this isn't true for Halo. This isn't even addressing the idea that 343 completely bombed the armor in Halo 5 to begin with.. most of the armor is either redundant or looks like garbage. It's a big leap of faith to hope that they could put out consistently good cosmetic items with that model. I don't know what model WILL work for Halo, but it seems obvious that the major title, fire and forget, every 3-4 years one definitely won't any longer. Ideally I think a singular Halo multiplayer experience, based on classic Halo with iterative updates and a separate campaign "expansion" of sorts every year or 2 would be best. I think this approach would give 343 the space and (most importantly) the time to deliver whatever it is that they feel like dabbling in. 2019 - Halo multiplayer launches, concurrent with first Halo campaign "expansion" 2020 - Second Halo campaign "expansion", addition of Halo battle royale that a lot of people seem to want 2021 - Large update to Halo multiplayer And so on. All the while you see balance or refresh patches for the multiplayer. It doesn't seem like such a crazy idea to me.

  9. The only reason I have the tiniest bit of optimism for Halo 6 is because of the delay in information about it. Definitely hopeful that they took a step back after Halo 5's launch and realized that some of the things that really comprised the identity of the series have been lost and they're on the way back. The art direction is probably one of the more important ones outside of gameplay and it applies to every facet of the game. I don't think Halo 5 looks bad, but it does look unique. I don't think unique is the direction to take game 6 in a series. H2A looked good but imagine a game with Halo 3's style made with today's graphics? Damn that would be nice. The UI needs some attention though. Halo 5 was an improvement over Halo 4 but a carbon copy of the Reach UI would be spicy.

  11. If Side used 50% of his usual total words in a cast he would be considerably better and not lose anything of value in what he's saying. I think he has a good voice for casting and he obviously knows the game, he just talks himself into dizziness sometimes it seems. He shouldn't do so much play-by-play.
  12. I mean, consider that the player base for Halo has gotten older in the last 8 years or so. I'd guess that a vast majority of people who were AMs in 2010 have moved on to either other games or just in life in general. Coupled with the fact that Halo 5 is not the classic Halo formula/requires a lot of muscle memory and you have a recipe for younger kids like Shotzzy to blow up in the scene.
  13. I expect Ninja will never return to Halo and for good reason. Even if Fortnite spontaneously died he'd still make loads of money from being a variety streamer. All I want from Ninja is for his fans to know where he came from, lol. Some of my friends are really big into Fortnite and had NO CLUE that Ninja was "famous" before he blew up playing battle royale. Say what you want about how he played Halo or how his teams did, but the guy did a lot for the scene through its hardest years and he has earned his success.

  15. Imagine a world where 343 Industries reveals a classic-style Halo 6 at the Halo World Championship, run by MLG, where a cool million goes to first. I didn't post much during the event so just wanted to take a second and thank @@Clap for both this weekend and what we have now, looking forward. That was easily the most fun I've had watching Halo since X-Games and some of the H2A tournaments a few years back. And a big thanks to all the talent too, it was such a good show. Was especially glad to see Goldenboy back; he was excellent on the desk.

  17. While generally true, even LoL has visa issues and obviously the influence there is much greater. FlyQuest played with a backup midlaner for the first few weeks of spring split because Fly had "visa issues" and wasn't at their team house yet.
  18. It's weird and probably irrational but MLG would give me more hope for Halo in general. They've seen the catastrophic fall of Halo over the years and some small part of me believes that they wouldn't get involved with Halo again unless they had an indication from 343 that Halo 6 is going to be classic gameplay.
  19. Yeah that reminded me a lot of the "my play style isn't big on accuracy" guy from reddit. CoD is like a video game version of that Jason Statham movie, Crank. That is not a reflection of what MLG does with it. What MLG can do for a game that is built from the ground up for casual players is exactly the reason why people are so excited at the prospect of them coming back to Halo.

Remember when the first Halo 5 gameplay leaked during an event and the entire community melted down over some grainy ass footage that we didn't know for sure was Halo 5 until someone from 343 tweeted to "not freak out until you see it"? I feel like we're in the same place, years down the line, and nothing is ever going to change. Whoever is calling the shots for this franchise is way too wrapped up in these weirdly gathered data points to recognize that Halo is garbage now and all of the weight the franchise used to carry is gone. Nobody respects the series. If in some way it comes up in conversation, it's always "oh yeah I used to play the shit out of Halo 2/3," or "I didn't know they still made Halo games." I've played Halo for most of my life but whether that continues hinges entirely on whether or not Halo 6 is revealed and has sprint. Whatever else they do the game, most every issue I've had with Halo since 2010 has stemmed from that point. We've seen 3 different iterations of that god forsaken mechanic since 2010 and despite all the D A T A saying otherwise, that shit doesn't work. If we start out knowing that Halo 6 doesn't have it, we can work from there. I feel like I should have known better when I saw that 240p vid of a guy flying around a bastardized Midship with a bright orange energy sword, but here I am. I loved this game too much growing up to watch 343 butcher it anymore.
  21. Few takeaways: Even if they came back, I would be absolutely flabbergasted if 343 allowed MLG to mess with game settings. The likelihood that 343 eats the "we couldn't make our own game competitive, so MLG can do it" crow is about -1000%. This Jessie T person is the perfect example of how the development of Halo games has become sterile. You can quote figures and research studies all you want, but nothing will ever beat that old Bungie mantra of "we make games we want to play." I just don't know how many developers like that exist out there anymore. We will never get another good Halo game again if Microsoft/343 remain fixated on these ridiculous datapoints.
  22. I don't understand 343's inability to accept that they did something and people didn't like it. Breakout was a great example. The game mode was meh, it was okay as a change of pace, but didn't belong in competitive settings for Halo. Do one-life gametypes work for other games? Sure, but Breakout was the only gametype that featured that difference and if I remember right, shields were weaker or some shit so players died faster. It was not consistent with the actual game and the maps were junk. How hard is it to just fucking admit you made a mistake? Like damn. Humility is a great thing and there's NOTHING wrong with making errors. You can't learn and improve without them. 343 seems to be incapable of ever coming to grips with the fact that they've screwed something up and it's one of the reasons Halo keeps going backwards. Nobody expects you to be perfect. But for the love of god they need to get real and realize that they've made bad decisions and changes and work from that point instead of building off compounding problems. The "will we alienate our current player base by going back to classic Halo gameplay" thing is absolute horeshit, too. There's nobody left to alienate playing Halo anymore. What is there to lose? I'd go as far as assuming that if anybody is still riding out Halo right now, they're 100% ride or die with the franchise and it won't matter what you do next. So either 1) keep those 30k players OR 2) since Halo has been shit since 2010, take the fucking chance and make the change that makes the most sense for the legacy of this series.
