  1. I've been MIA for a few weeks (been focusing on competing in am leagues for Overwatch and grinding my way into Masters) but I came in here after realizing I may have missed the news on Worlds and it's location.

I remember being so excited for Worlds 2016 and saying to myself, "I'm saving money from this very second to go to 2017''s event." I have saved over $1000 while only making $20k (and paying $1k rent, what do you guys pay? :kappa: ) in anticipation of going to an event this year.

In January I was hopeful to go to Worlds but was okay with maybe just going to a Dreamhack instead if the location wasn't announced soon enough. Having caught up to the Worlds announcement, I feel hesitant to even go to Dreamhack for Halo. I'm not sure I can continue supporting a developer who has done everything to spite it's own fans.

I grew up with this game and I'm hoping this Worlds proves me wrong even if it's stuck in the back of an ex-Jiffylube with a 100 people. The one thing that has kept me a fan of Halo through the thick of all this garbage has been the actual matches. I may scrap the dream of going to a Halo event and getting the late-2000s MLG experience but if NV and Optic and Liquid keep putting on a show I may still stick around.

  2. Gameplay from our scrim last night vs EG. Added some little editing to it hehehe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_D1iveH_dM

Goes down 15-3 with no map positioning. Flips a switch then hits back to back killing frenzies. Is Royal 2 even human? I swear the dude is a robot programmed into a human brain.

Also fuck cratos and showtime and their team for being okay with their actions

I never said it was a top esport (tier 1), merely that it should be a higher tier than Halo. It doesn't matter what it was a few years ago it's still beating Halo in:

    • Total Prize money
    • Number of major tournaments
    • Number of different organizers interested (i.e. not developer backed)
    • Average major tournament viewership
    • Interest in different geographical esports regions

I'm not trying to be a debby downer, just looking at things from an objective perspective - the above are the things we work towards. Now you're going to watch this meme video and forget this conversation ever happened.

  4. I reluctantly started playing after two years of my friends trying to get me into it. Once I actually knew what I was doing, I was HOOKED. Now none of them play, but I still do. If you want to play some time, I'm always up for a game or two! FlizzyFletch is my IGN. This is the first and only MOBA I've ever played, let alone first non console shooter I've really sunk time into.

I went to Worlds semis in Chicago this year and saw SKT vs RNG and oh my god. It. Was. INCREDIBLE.

I can't wait til I have the kind of money to go to a worlds event. I'm stugging to even make it to a Halo event though. Rip the dream lol

Yeah, I'll add you and we can play Normal Queue or something. I'll go mid Aurelius and act like I'm good! IGN should be ShadyCrady like on here. Haven't been on since before the new patch though. Hope shit hasnt changed too much.

In response to Mjhunter, there's way more counterparts to a flag toss than a gp and that's the problem. Right now there's no way to stop the cap unless you stop it before they get to their sneaky or you manage to pull the flag. You could bait a flag that got tossed onto the flag stand though. Right now the solution is run in and try to pull the flag bottom mid because you know there's no way to get a return.

  5. Theres actually quite a few high tier players from the Halo community that play League at a high level. Insteriyo, Elitest(used to at least), Ryanoob, and a bunch of others that did or have. I'd love to hear some input.

I peaked in Diamond when I was truly GRINDING League of Legends and finished up last season in Platnium.

Man, I have such a hard time grinding the game that I haven't even been able to play ranked yet. It's really difficult going from fps to moba after only playing games in first person your whole life. Doesn't stop me from watching the game though. Worlds was amazing. Have a really hard time watching tournaments from before the rift update though. Not sure how anybody could watch or play with those graphics.

  6. I deleted most of your post because I do agree. Halo is a GREAT Esports title, and its popularity is restrained due to its player base when compared to Esports like LoL, DotA and CS:GO. But its that popularity and community that makes them the Goliath's of Esports.

Anyway. I just want to address what you said, but I'll comment after these two multi quotes:

You're wrong. Players in League can entirely carry a team by themselves (though harder to do at the higher levels of play). Getting fed in LoL (Kills, Obj, Minions) will allow you to level up faster gaining more XP and utilize more gold to buy stronger items. You mentioned slow kill times making it a war of attrition and you couldn't be more wrong. Sure there is a fair share of "poking" (damage without actually engaging/committing to a fight), but when a fight happens to make a play for a kill...the kills usually take a few seconds...sometimes quicker then a Halo perfect shot kill from the pistol.

Now think of this. Think of a Halo player SO individually good, mechanically incredible, always on step ahead of you, no matter what, so skilled that it was considered a feat to just be able to kill him once in a 1v1. I'm not saying like "wooo, celebrate, I killed him". I'm saying you'll make headlines for killing him 1v1, he's that good...and you just killed him ONCE. Commentators and the crowd will chant your name, JUST for killing him in one 1v1.

Thats Faker, the Korean mid laner for team SK Telecom T1. 3 time World Champion and considered pretty widely to be the best LoL player in the world for a few years running. A player so good, that headlines are made JUST for killing him. Somebody so good that other mid laners want to play him, just to get anhilated by him. A player so good that entire hype videos are made specifically highlighting teams looking to take him down. In an interview, Faker said:

Interviewer: "Don't you think your presence prevents other midlaners from receiving proper recognition of their skill?",

Faker responded that he believes his presence actually highlights more midlaners than it shadows: "Even solo killing me once puts a player in the limelight.""

Watch a few minutes of this, its a highlight reel of Faker in competitive play. It'll highlight his individual skill, but even more so you'll see the kill times and it'll show that League is anything but slow paced.

LoL has a higher skill cap and ceiling than any console game, easily. There are more characters, skills, timings, objectives, I could go on and on, than any FPS shooter has ever had, in each individual game on the Rift (The name of the map is Summoners Rift). I'm not saying Halo isnt friendlier for spectators, and it definitely has the recipe(mostly) for success as an Esport, but as somebody who has played both at a moderately high level of competition, LoL has a much higher skill ceiling.

Isn't it pretty much a given that @@RyaNoob would be the best to comment on the skill gap between Halo and League? He's a pro at Halo and I believe he was mid-high diamond in LoL from what I heard. Would love to hear his input, although I think everyone knows he's gonna agree that LoL has more of a skill gap. Also Faker is a literal God. Dude could easily go to DotA and wreck if he wanted, he'd just need a year or so probably. Why he would though when his contract for League has to be in the millions of dollars, plus prize money.

In regards to the movement mechanics, we can talk about how autostabilize and GP helped improve movement but they were never designed for that. And GP has made Truth CTF such a bore to watch. It should be disabled for the flag runner tbh.

  7. Sigh. Too bad about Liquid. I thought they were going places if they would've stuck together.

They were heading straight to the bottom of the podium, which is a nice consolation prize but no competitor plays for 3rd. It's clear Spartan is a great player but being a great player isn't enough if you have flaws elsewhere. Name 1 player on NV or Optic who is an emotional/tilt player. Snipedown could be argued in the past, but this past tournament shows that he has a lot of resolve. If you're going to beat Optic or nV reliably, you have to be able to play to your full potential every day, every game. Sure, you'll have bad games (Snipedown dropped a breadstick lul) but you need to be able to play at the top of your game at least 90% of the time. This is why we see great players who can absolutely be beasts at any given moment but they never win the tournaments. How many event win's does Ninja have? 2 in H4. Naded? 0. Spartan (although he's new I'll give him that)? The list goes on with players like these. Consistency is key.

Really like this new St8 Geniuses squad on Paper, but I wish RoyBox had better prospects. Much like Contra/Dev though, it's easy to see why players don't wanna team with those that have a hard time committing to playing online often.

  8. There are SO many ways to better balance the AR and the autos in this game, but why not start with the basics:

Just make the automatic ttk higher than the pistols.

There's nothing wrong with the AR being easier to use at close range, but a player with a pistol who lands perfect shots should win the 1v1.

There has to be like at least a full 1 shot cushion though, not one shot. You shouldn't be forced to hit every single shot without fail against the starting auto weapon.

  9. look man, you have negged every single one of my posts for like the past 5 months, i get you don't like me. Save the sarcastic bullshit you think you are good at for someone else.

Let me just tell you my app that i've worked on for 4 years, on an internet forum built by a few people who also dislike me and filled with highly educated programmers.

My app will help people, but i hope you never touch it because its people like you who assume the negative first who are fucking the world up.

Just use the ignore feature fam, he's not gonna stop anytime soon. Good luck with the app. Glad to hear you got funded so quick!

  10. And halo already has its unique gunplay. We don't need to copy CS or CoD when there is already a successful formula.

Agreed, autos add nothing unique to the sandbox except spray and pray. I mean look at Overwatch's current meta of you want another example of an auto outclassing precision weaponry and it being unfun and uncompetitive. Soldier 76 did less dps (16 per shot, 25 in mag) than McCree (70 per shot, 6 in mag) did, but he offered utility which made him a viable pick in tournament play. He also had no spread for three-four shots, which then got much wilder the longer you bursted. He was played less than McCree, but was still picked some.

Then, Blizzard needed him due to concern's of people finding a macro to allow them to "burst" at such pinpoint intervals that you would never see a decrease in dps or an increase in spread. He was never picked after that, and Blizzard decided to buff him to where they thought he was before without allowing for the macro. They increased his dps (20 dmg/shot, up from 16) and made it to where he could spray 4 shots but the reset for the recoil took longer.

Now, he still has less dps than McCree, but only slightly. But the fact that he can reliably adjust his aim and continue a sustained dps contrary to McCree's hit or miss makes him the only viable pick now. You're literally at a major disadvantage if you go McCree over Soldier, even with a godly McCree. Because even when you're a godly McCree, a Soldier wins more often than not.

I know theyre completely different games, but concept is the same. Autos are more reliable than precision weapons in a skilled person's hands, and if they even do a similar amount of damage they will be picked over precision weapons way more often than they should in a competitive game. It's just like AoE attacks or point+click abilities versus Skillshots in MOBAs. They're more reliable because it's much harder to miss, and at the peak level of gameplay, the key to victory is consistency. All the players at the top can make amazing plays, but whoever can do the most the most consistently will win.

Tl;Dr: I bring up unrelated genres of games to argue whether autos in Halo are competitive. Spoiler: they aren't.

Some of the 4v4 rosters signed up for tonight's ASTRO 4v4 tournament! ALSO, we'll be using Observer Mode for the first time on a broadcast, hope to see you all there (finally unable to spoil the results of games in the chat)! 9pm EST - https://www.twitch.tv/teambeyondnet

The GOAT and Lunchbox teaming with some young guns? Talent scouting, perhaps? With the Roy+Naded and company, are we seeing the split of the Brown twins? Or is it just a pickup squad? The world may never know.

  12. Right now is when we gotta step up and make our voices heard about no radar.

They're finalizing settings, and if we dont say anything now, it won't get changed.

Ran Tour de Walsh for over an hour in an open lobby (eventually people stopped joining so it ended in a 1v1 for like 15 mins). No radar just like the old days. It played perfectly! The thing many don't know is that this game has the footsteps of a fucking elephant, so if you're sprinting at me from behind, I CAN HEAR YOU. I don't need radar to know you're there. Oddly enough, when radar's on I find that I die to people blindsiding me wayyy more often.

Plus remove radar 343. Also make Eden slayer not shit. And remove Stasis. And make Rig TS not so red-sided in high level play. And no fuel rod pls. Also nerf sniper magnetism it's better than the pistol on PC.

  13. In my experience its on a 24 hour clock. once you start having old upvotes "expiring" you will have more to give. At least that's how it felt before i joined the premium master race and got 150 extra upvotes. Thats barely more than 3 cents per extra upvote btw. Totally worth it. *nudge nudge*

I used to be a part of the premium master race, but then my interest in H5 began declining. Season 1 of Pro League sucked, there was no competition. Then this season came, and my hype slowly grew each day. Optic winning OC was expected and kinda bummed me out because it was so dominant. Truce clearing house was fun, plus UGC was so well ran I loved the whole event. Vegas was ridiculous and it took me a week to watch it in full because of the long delays and FFA, but still the champ bracket was lit. Then EU finas came, and @@Batchford had me shouting in my living room when he hit that killing frenzy on Truth.

Then came NA Finals. Relegation was lit, really wish 3sup could have pulled off a W in the first series. Then Optic destroys Liquid in the first series, I mean by God it was brutal. Str8 and Liquid was a slobber knocker, somehow making me giddy and depressed at the same time. I legitimately screamed when @@Commonly hit that triple on Rig. Then Optic runs through nV, no surprise and kinda killing any hype of a good grand finals. The the finals happen, and it's like the Halo magic from way back when was channelled into the Wizard. Royal 2 hitting that insane triple. The Fathom Fumble. Optic losing BOTH Coli flags. Optic giving nV Rig TS again?! The game 7 hype! Frosty chokes? Huke MVP?!!!

Now we've got an open LAN next month, another in March and HWC sometime after? DREAMHACK for Finals? Open Finals?!?!?!

(Have to wait til my paycheck for premium, rip my dreams)

  14. I knew i recognized his name. Dude's a clown.

I just saw a thread in reddit where someone was hoping 343 would fix mkb so that summit would stream halo. And reiku wasn't too find of that idea.

Guy would prefer to have a broken game than invite a larger audience to halo.

Aw man, got beat to mentioning my own thread! Damn you work. I'll have everyone know I had the distinct pleasure of having both Reiku and Cooper come to my post to troll. What an honor.
