  1. These last few weeks have been a throwback in so many ways. I don't think anyone on earth has larger egos than mid-tier Halo 3 wannabes X ) Seriously though, I am so stoked for the Invitational and the rest of the events this season. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come.
  2. Interesting. To me the shield animations in H3 accomplish this better than any other title--shields get brighter as they get close to breaking, then the character model have lights that get brighter as their health goes down (just remembered the old "blinking" callouts that people used before "absolute" lol). So it's sort of indirect, you can tell how weak someone is getting from the shots. I've always found hitmarkers distracting for some reason but to each their own.
  3. Nah you're fine dude, thanks for asking a question instead of flaming. I'm not "accusing" you of anything. Just asked whether online was included or not, and yes it looks like I misread Moses' tweet (my bad). Everyone just decided to fly off the rails instead of taking the time to clarify the OP as usual. Just wasn't clear to me what scope we were talking about here, especially when people implied that we were talking about all titles rather than just Halo. I think it's fine to compare between TOs in this generation of Halo (MLG hosting H5/MCC vs UGC hosting H5/MCC). Don't think it's fair to compare anyone dealing with Xbox One to TOs that hosted events on Xbox 360 though, for all the reasons discussed earlier in this thread. The lack of real LAN is straight up brutal. So compare away, I just think people jumped way too fast from wishing for a H3 throwback tournament and getting a huge one to blasting the TO. IMO don't think this event has been any more or less buggy or had any more issues than the events we've seen over the last 2-3 years, especially with how much is going on there. Everyone in attendance seems happy with how UGC has run the show, and that's a good sign for all of us.
  4. All good mate, I'm not that worried about it. Still don't think the OP comparison is good though. If we're comparing to events that are also this era on XB1 (not just Halo) then I guess it's fair. Still, people are pretty determined to dump on this event. I get that we do that on here but would be nice to see that hype for H3 carry over into support for the TOs or at least constructive criticism.
  5. ... yes, that's the point ... Or was OP referring to ALL MLG events, not just halo events?
  6. This includes online, yes? I was talking about LANs specifically and referring to Moses' tweet: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">The <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/HaloClassic?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#HaloClassic</a> is officially the second biggest LAN in HCS history<br><br>Imagine how well we could do with a real prize pool and a better location 🤔 <a href="https://t.co/EkPxnEDv1x">pic.twitter.com/EkPxnEDv1x</a></p>&mdash; Moses FPS (@Moses_FPS) <a href="https://twitter.com/Moses_FPS/status/1083866216773632001?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 11, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
  7. Not a great comparison. Remember this is the second largest event in Halo history—89 teams. With a bracket this large there's only so much UGC can do, and when (not if) errors or issues pop up, they have huge ripple effects.
  8. They're done for the day, back tomorrow at 10am CST. I think there's one last match (Tox v Nighthawks) on the bravo stream though.
  9. Yeah I mean it's day 1 so mostly ams playing ams and pros pooping on ams. More people will tune in to see the real games tomorrow I suspect.
  10. I'm gong to guess a peak at 28k, probably for REC vs SQ or Tox vs SQ. Also, I expect the tourney will get a Ninja host at some point ... which would be good for us.
  11. Have any teams been scrimming before UGC? Seems like some folks were talking about it but never followed through.
  12. I mean, that's fine—I agree with you, and I also don't enjoy watching OW, Starcraft, or Fortnite—but it doesn't matter what you and I think. It matters whether teams sign up to compete and spectators show up to watch (and spend $$). By that standard, all those games have a have (or have had) healthy competitive scenes. We can talk mechanics all day but let's not begrudge other games their success.
  13. Agreed. Was discussing with some randoms in queue the other night about how Halo 3 has also aged the best of the original trilogy. I love H2, but the textures and everything look very boxy and dated. Halo 3 has a slightly less gritty art style that for some reason still looks pretty good today. And HCE looks old as shit obviously (though it will always be my favorite). I can't tell you how many times over the years people walked in while I was playing H3 and asked"what Halo is this?"
  14. Nah, talking past each other. My point is only that quirks and inconsistencies don't stop people from enjoying the game, and that they're present in every game. It's unlikely that "the nostalgia will wear off" and people will suddenly realize that H3 is a terrible game, because it isn't. But by all means, please continue your forum activism. Totally onboard with improving what's already good. Though on that front, especially with older games, it's not quite as easy as twiddling a bunch of knobs. I'll defer to the folks who actually work on the back end, but some of the things people are requesting would involve re-building huge parts of the game, and that's just not reasonable or practical. It was a huge deal in Halo 4 when 343i changed the game's architecture to allow them to tune individual traits of weapons--they did a whole E3 presentation on it. I don't know if changes at that resolution are even possible in H3.
  15. You realize that Halo 3 was still occasionally hitting the top 10 concurrent player lists on XBL well into Halo 4's life? When I was a kid I would log onto H3 and Team Slayer would have 65k or more players, easily over 100k on the weekends. Call it trash all you want, online or off--people loved the game, and projectile physics, disconnects, and blood shots didn't stop people from playing it. The good outweighs the bad and the annoying.
  16. @@CyReN now that H5 and HCS are dead, is it time for a Halo Classic thread ... ?
  17. He celebrated, jumped up with a scream, fell off the map AND UNPLUGGED HIS CONTROLLER Does not get more epic than that.
  18. Back when Ninja was on EG, I remember him trying to convince the team to all play on their monitors in separate rooms rather than doing a mock tournament setup in the team house. He's not exactly a 'young player' anymore, but a lot of players who came in around Reach/H4 seem to take screen-sharing for granted, not sure why.
  19. Ninja basically has a job, and that's to stream Fortnight all the time so he doesn't drop viewers and subs. VicX definitely knew this--haven't seen either of them talk about it but the most likely explanation is that they're competing in the 2v2 for fun and not taking it super seriously. Which really makes sense given that they've each had about a year's hiatus from competitive Halo.
  20. Definitely not just Twitter. Schools, politics, you name it. Social media is making it worse though.
