Honestly people hype up the lethul snipedown rivalry, but for me the weekly pro league had some great stuff too. Str8 having that dream season to escape relegation when Heinz put them on his back. The cratos stellur drama. All the VicX stuff. All the stuff around EG. Lotta great organic storylines.

I think the weekly format with pretty fixed teams just naturally lends itself better to stuff like that compared to tourneys with big gaps between them where everyone shuffles around apart from like top 2.

TBH that was the best part of H5 competitive. It legit felt like watching sports to me, where I was looking forward to the matches and the rivalries every week. Didn’t hurt that the casting and production were great too. I still remember individual plays from Pro League, like when it looked like CLG was going to lose their first series ever but they stormed back in game 5, or when Ninja got that no scope sniper double kill to get EG the win... We absolutely need a league format for Infinite competitive; the old MLG times where we only got a few LAN events were great for the time but really don’t hold up today.

It’s funny looking back at H5 HCS, because despite the game being garbage (IMO) and not being at all fun to play, it truly was very entertaining to watch.

Weekly Pro League matches; Lethul leaving EG for CLG then losing to his former team at XGames; OpTic buying CLG was absolutely wild; so many excellent viewing experiences, rivalries, championship series, bracket resets, etc. I really do miss it, especially considering the drought we’re going through right now.

Agree with this very strongly; H5 was a much more enjoyable experience to watch than it was to play (from a competitive standpoint I mean, from a casual standpoint H5 was a lot of fun to play as well with Warzone, great custom games, etc)

  3. God can you guys imagine what a great story it would have been to have a Flamesword-Neighbor rivalry going into infinite? Of course that would have been more realistic when the game was releasing in a couple of months, not so much when it’s probably a year away and I don’t think anyone will even be thinking about Halo besides us by then :D

Edit: reminds me of the whole Spartan-RyaNoob beef. God that was such a spicy event, especially with Ryanoob getting the game 5 win then going on to beat Snipedown’s squad as well (even though I was rooting for them :D)

  4. This is pretty interesting...

Have to say I agree with the choice. However appealing it might sound to get *something* over *nothing*, it's just not the right move for keeping interest in the game. If people have already moved on when big features of the game come along (*ahem* H5 Forge), it's just going to make it way less likely people actually use them.

It was actually hilarious watching them pathetically trying to spin this as some type of joke it’s like no we’re not laughing with you 343..you’re getting mocked because your game looks horrendous.

Yeah, agree for sure. When you have some minor bug which causes some hilarious effect in-game which is quickly fixed, that's when you as a dev get to join in the memes. When everyone is shitting on the basic quality of your game, it's not a good look for you to treat it as a joke.

  6. Not surprised after the well-deserved backlash the reveal got, however much they might have tried to get on board with the memes. Obviously disappointing, but if this means we get a well-polished game with high graphical fidelity, then it's the correct decision.

Note how they only said 2021, not even which quarter, so that means we can pretty much expect the game Holiday 2021 :D

  7. Look I know a lot of people are going to complain that we don't need any more H3... but I'm just happy that they're willing to put in the effort to tide us over to Infinite, and with a game which I enjoy watching no less. I stopped tuning in after the first couple of H2A cups, but I've been watching H3 streams pretty consistently on Twitch and I'm happy we'll get some measure of competitive tournaments over the next couple of months.

No, player contracts forbid it. However from my understanding, most CoD contracts were 1 or 2 years in duration and Frosty has been on the record as recently as June on his stream saying he prefers Halo. He could be bought out or just not renew his contract if it was only for 1 year.

I’ve watched Frosty’s stream a lot recently, and he has said that while he does prefer Halo, he has no intention of coming back to compete in Infinite unless the game gets close to COD-levels of interest and profitability. It just doesn’t make sense for him from a financial perspective.

I know there's been a lot of (understandable) negativity surrounding Halo since the gameplay demo, but this here is absolutely amazing news. This will drastically increase the game's population for a long time after release, which will keep interest in the game high, which is the best-case scenario for the competitive scene. This gets me so hyped for the launch!

  10. I'm been watching Frosty's stream the last couple of days when he's been streaming H5. I haven't really watched his streams much before, but what really struck me is how even though everyone would always talk about him for his movement/shot, his communication is absolutely incredible. He doesn't just do the calling out of oneshots or where the enemy team is, but succinctly explains what he's doing and the exact things that individual members of his team can do to support. It's really no wonder he was such a phenom in H5, he's just such an incredibly well rounded player. Really disappointing that COD won't let him compete in Infinite.

I'm still very excited to see gameplay. There is a lot you can dissect from in-game footage. If they don't show any multiplayer but the beta is announced for August or September I'll be happy.

Oh I’d be perfectly happy with only campaign footage if we got a beta announcement within a couple of months. With how the marketing for this game has gone though I just don’t see it happening. I would love to be surprised though...

  12. Snip3down streaming Halo right now, here is the Nightbot response to the !future command in his chat:

My main focus is on Apex, I will be playing halo around once a week. I will not know my future for infinite until I play the game.

Smart on him to not overcommit before seeing if 343 drops the ball on the game... I have to say it would be incredibly disappointing to lose a legend like Snip3down from the scene if the game isn’t up to par.
