  4. I agree. I thought UGC did a great job with Halo CE. The aspect ratio made my ocd tingle a bit but besides that I've really enjoyed what little of the rebroadcast I've been able to watch so far. I'm hoping that they keep it going.
  5. During previous broadcasts of my lans I've had an issue with keeping all of the audio in sync between all the different mics and cap cards. This is due to the different clock rates each device has that causes the audio to drift out of sync as time goes by. I've done a ton of testing these past couple months to adjust the clock rates but but have found it's impossible to keep 8 different devices perfectly in sync for an extended period of time. Therefore I have a script running that will reset the audio once every hour to ensure everything stays in sync. So if you hear the audio cut out for a couple secs, that's probably just the audio resetting itself. Just FYI
  6. Just to clarify...the spread was removed just cuz it was a good idea. dds stated that he wanted to try it out long before nhe was ever a thing. This was also discussed early on in the development of nhe however insidious was wholeheartedly against it. Insidious was basically the project lead at that time so nobody pushed the issue. It wasn't until insidious stopped work on nhe and dds learned how to do everything insidious had implemented did we give it a test run. We honestly didn't know what to expect but it obviously turned out to be a good thing. However it's so subtle a change that I don't think 90 percent of players would notice had they not been told. A few blind tests were conducted and each time nobody noticed a difference. Outside of those tests I also know of one person, who was very much against no spread, going to a lan and not realizing it wasn't there until somebody told him afterwards. Here's what's new since beta v5: Dual Screen Timer: – A screen timer that counts up to 30 minutes and repeats, coinciding with the talking timer, has been added. Due to halo’s built-in limitations, the timer can only appear in one place at a time. Through some clever positioning and blank lines, it became possible to have a second timer on bottom screen, but this could not be replicated for 3v3 and 4v4. As a result, top left and bottom left will not have their own timers, but the timer does appear bottom right of top half and bottom right of bottom half for 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 games. Cortana Timer: – The in-game Cortana audio timer has been tweaked slightly. Announcements have been kept to a minimum per community request, and are now more intuitive as a result. As the screen timer counts up during the first minute, you will hear the following at these times: 00:20 – [beep] 00:30 – [beep, “30 seconds left”] 00:40 – [beep, “20 seconds”] 00:50-59 – [“10″,”9″,”8″,”7″,”6″,”5″,”4″,”3″,”2″,”1”] 01:00 – [beep, “1 minute”] Quotes denote words spoken by Cortana, and this sequence repeats every minute, announcing each minute after it passes, until 30, and then repeats. The announcement of the upcoming minute at 20 and 40 seconds has been removed due to the addition of the screen timer. 13 Working NHE maps, Most Renamed, All Reorganized: – Every map is now compatible with NHE, and filenames represent the actual map name. After much community discussion, the map order in the menu has been modified, and is as follows: Chill Out, Hang ‘Em High, Prisoner, Damnation, Derelict, Downrush, Battle Creek, Decidia, Double Take, Redshift, Outbound, Exhibit, Hotbox Hostman Location Update: – Hostman now enters a ghost, teleports to a point hundreds of meters above the map, is frozen and rendered invincible, all in a 30th of a second. This eliminated the need to rebuild stock maps in 3ds Max, restoring peace of mind that every stock map and all respective gametypes work as they did originally, with the added bonus of all the NHE mods. Credits Screen: – Hostman’s screen now displays the NHE team credits. Damnation Crate Flash: – The large visual flash (or spark) on the “computer” crates in Damnation have been fixed. Postgame Carnage Report: – The name of the map that was just played now appears in the bottom left of the Postgame Carnage Report HUD Message Feed: – Many of the HUD message events have been shortened, including every powerup, weapon, and ammo pickup. Also, in an effort to normalize the kill messages and match the audio announcement, “You are on a killing spree!” has been shortened to simply “Killing Spree!”. Prisoner Bots Campaign Map Included is an updated beta version of the Prisoner Bots campaign map. * New in beta v6, the score/kills now go up to 50. There is a simple “spawn system” set up for the bots so that the area you are in will affect whichever area they will spawn in. They will not spawn right on top or right behind you anymore.

  9. It will work on a jtag or RGH modded 360. However you will still see the same frame drops and jitters as if you were playing on a retail copy.

  11. Beach LAN 7 vids can be found here. The audio wasn't quite where i wanted it to be this year. The commentator mic wasn't fully synced with the station mics so there's a bit of an echo when anyone is commentating. I frankly ran out of time between work, nhe v1.0 testing, tourney scheduling stuff, etc. and wasn't able to do all of the audio tweaking that needed to be done. If all goes to plan, next year the audio should be much better.
  12. I looked into this a little bit and found there is an hdmi adapter (that only works on the Wii) made by a company called Sewell that had low latency in mind design-wise. Apparently it only adds a few milliseconds of lag however the trade off is poor picture quality and aliasing. For anyone that is curious why this is, I suggest reading up on (or watch some youtube vids) the Nyquist–Shannon Sampling Theorem. There are other converters out there however it seems they are either really expensive or have other issues such as random blackouts. With all this being said maybe there is hope for a low latency converter for the xbox. However it would require a manufacturer to decide to use low latency as their selling point.
  13. I doubt it. I imagine that even if you were able to somehow replace the existing video chip with a digital video encoder and hdmi port, you'd still need to hack the kernel to get the xbox to do anything with it. As far as I know, the only hope for playing lag free og Halo 1 on an LCD would be by either getting the source code and making a proper PC port, or using an xbox emulator. Currently there are two emulators in development and from what I understand one of them plays Halo 1 at around 10 to 15 fps using a beast of a computer. I don't think system link works yet but progress is being made.
  14. No. This cable will introduce at least 2 frames of lag (if not more) just like the Pound HDMI cable and any regular old analog to digital converter box.
  15. BL7 will have the latest version of NHE on all of the boxes whatever that may be. Currently the latest version is a private release that has no spread and several other features added since beta v7. We are currently testing and making bug fixes to try and get v1.0 out before Beach LAN.

  17. @@VinnyMendoza the tourney schedule will be posted in this forum. I'm still working up the schedule, format and rules but should have something in here soon. Btw I'm structuring the tourney so that the stream station will have only have top seeded teams playing the best matchups. In other words, there shouldn't be as many one-sided blowouts on stream this year.
  18. Next Thursday my semi-annual VA Beach LAN will be starting. There will be a 2v2 tourney with the FFA round on Friday (which will include a final round this time) and bracket play on Saturday. Both Hard Way and Knighty Knight will be attending so I'm sure there will be plenty of great commentary for those viewing the stream. There will be two stations that are capable of streaming so we shouldn't have too much down time for those people watching. Also we will have a pre-release build of Halo 1: NHE v1.0 on all xboxes so it can get some testing before the final release..   21. Winner's bracket finals has map striking / vetoes. But yeah I'm doing it like this for two reasons. 1- I want the tourney to go as fast as possible. 2- I want all seven maps to be played.
  22. The tourney will be played only on the main 7 maps (HH, Priz, Dammy, Dere, DR, Creek, Chilly). The winner's bracket matches will be best of 3 games played on the main 7 maps (in order). Loser's bracket matches will be best of 3 (each team vetoes 2 maps). Winner's finals, and if necessary the grand finals, will be best of 5 (each team vetoes 1 map).
  23. @@Teapot I think 7 shots is a good average for CE. Last year I collected 1v1 pistol stats from 18 games (three 6-game series) that four of my locals played in (including myself). As a whole we averaged 6.456 shots per kill out of a total of 381 1v1 pistol battles. @@phil Great video btw.
  24. The videos for this lan are uploaded here. The audio for the first half of the lan was a little screwed up (so be careful headphone viewers). I added some webcams this lan and learned that all usb devices share the same bandwidth which happened to screw up the volume levels of my mics. As a result, my compressors were at the wrong settings which caused mic static and clipping. This should be fixed next lan :/ enjoy
