  1. Another reminder of how terribly off-base and better the marketing to this game was.
  2. Those reviews actually provide some REALLY good insight towards 343i as a company. Thanks for that.
  3. It's honestly not that far fetched of a theory.. after all, the point of a business is to make money. Not to mention I've seen way worse business practices in the gaming industry. And just because someone doesn't "personally use split-screen" anymore does NOT equal it's dying. Imagine if I flipped that argument saying: "well now that I'm in college, the majority of gamers who live on campus only play games that support local multiplayer. Since more people in my surrounding area utilize split-screen, it's popularity has actually gone up."
  4. So I just relistened to HuntTheTruth (both seasons) on my drive back from New York and it just makes me wish SO BADLY that the marketing wasn't so in left field from what we got. The second half of Season 2 is where things really got uninteresting and of course that's when it even comes close to resembling something in Halo 5.
  5. It's a paradox. People leave due to lack of variety. Lack of variety due to people leaving. Just give us a healthy amount of variety at launch and people wouldn't get tired of the game so fast.

Sometimes when I can’t sleep for whatever reason I try to play out how society would change and function given you change a single variable of it and attempt to come up with the repercussions that follow (think “Domino Effect”) and honestly it’s quite self-provocative in an annoying way to do so, believe it or not, as thinking this way can somewhat have a placebo effect on your own mind causing you to actually live life an astronomically small percentage closer to that hypothetical society. Given this, could I actually live how I think? Sure one variable change = tiny percentage of a difference, but if I KEEP running this tests in a manner I want to live life, maybe these percentages could add up and change my way of living through changing my way of perceiving in this specific way? Maybe this might be overthinking it, but when you look at this idea of running tests over and over until our mind finds a reality we seem content living in, it parallels a software program running commands allowed by an administrator until it gets the answer it wants remarkably. The biggest issue with this argument is the fact that Locke didn't enter the universe when we needed that "bad-ass superhero vessel" in a light-hearted save the galaxy adventure, he entered the universe after everything started taking a serious, fleshed out direction. Take Chief for example, sure Locke would be a fine character in the original trilogy if they simply added a unique element to his personality, but since this is the 343era of Halo, everything is meant to be taken way more seriously. They understood that with Chief, and they gave him a character arc that fit the giant change in direction 343i was going for in Halo 4. Locke being a boring character with no uniqueness (i.e. Bungie-era Chief) just makes him fall completely flat in this style of storytelling.
  9. I actually agree with what you're saying here. There's no denying that given Locke's background, he has the POTENTIAL to be more interesting than the Chief, but as of right now his PERSONALITY falls completely flat. I'd say that my favorite character is honestly Buck. I would say Chief but he's in such a weird character state thanks to the writing of Halo 5 after the events of Halo 4.
  10. Umm.. Did you just LORE at me? Someone get this guy outta here. On a different note, sure, the THINGS Locke's character did were interesting, but that's completely separate from his personality as we know it.
  11. I'd argue that it's a combination of both, but mainly because of his personality. Limiting to solely nostalgia and marketing is insulting to his original character. Myself and everyone I know loved the chief for his badass personality, not because he's "the main character in Halo." With that logic, Locke should be the most loved character in Halo 5 SINCE HE'S THE MAIN CHARACTER. But he's not since his personality is boring compared to the Chief's.
  12. He's considered iconic because his unique personality is that of a silent, one-lining bad-ass and everything surrounding him in the Bungie era games complimented it perfectly. What even IS Locke's personality? Soldier? What personality trait separates him from any of the countless UNSC soldiers? EDIT: Hell, FUCKING GYSGT Stacker is a more unique and interesting character than Locke.
  13. Yet he was STILL considered one of the most iconic, loved main characters in gaming. It may not be fantastic narratively, but it was fantastic for the games themselves and complemented the tone perfectly. It's far more fantastic than any 343era character.
  14. Halo 5's art design in the campaign was top notch aside from a few nitpicks here and there that I have no hope 343 will change. The encounters, while varied a bit more than Halo 4, were still very bland however. Too much focus on infantry combat. It still feels a step backwards from Reach and 3. I feel similarly about the soundtrack. It's a great step in the right direction, and some tracks really stand out, but it's still a shadow of Marty's unique, immersive touch. That extends beyond the soundtrack and how it was implemented into the game. I miss the music from a cutscene flowing into gameplay without any cuts, loading, and/or hiccups. The narrative.. ..well.. ..you know. As far as Locke goes, he's a pretty terrible character to be honest. Chief and Noble 6 were the silent, one-liner badass from the get go. They only spoke when absolutely necessary, and typically in the most straightforward, badass way possible. The devs KNEW that trying to make an emotional character out of someone who literally saves the galaxy from space zombies and a religious cult of various alien species, one of which is known for their cuteness/humor more than anything else, wouldn't work well. Locke isn't that way at all. His character flip-flops like a pancake. There's absolutely no interesting mystery behind him, he's set up in Nightfall as someone who might have to deal with his horrific past(?) but it's never further addressed, his lines are NOT interesting, and overall it just makes him an uninteresting character. He's almost as bad as Tanaka. I've said my praises with Halo 5's multiplayer, but I have mainly negative thoughts regarding 343i's direction with the campaign.
  15. Still forever wishing Arbiter/Jul M'Dama got into an epic battle on Sunaion, and that's how they killed him off.
  16. THIS IS THE UPDATE That makes Halo 5 feel like a launch-ready product as an evolution off of previous Halo titles. Regardless of issues with campaign, playlist management, and the 3-tiered gun system, this game with some simple tweaks, bug fixes, Oddball in matchmaking, Race, and an assault variant of Dawnstar feels like a Halo worthy of its name, and that's something I haven't said or felt in a WHILE.

  19. You can really help negate the issue with tinkering with the deadzones/acceleration. That + having the same horizontal/vertical sensitivity = aiming that is perfect to me.
