Microsoft’s E3 conference closed with a gameplay demo of Anthem, BioWare’s brand-new IP. The game is an open-world RPG with a somewhat dystopian sci-fi setting. Similarly to Bungie’s juggernaut franchise Destiny, Anthem seems to be a loot-based social shooter with a focus on 4-person squad play. Here is the Anthem E3 Gameplay Demo:
In Anthem, players will take on the role of “Freelancers,” and will protect humanity from numerous threats such as the ominously-named, “Scars.” To do so, players will utilize mech suits known as “Javelins.” Javelins will be class based, with the demo referencing Rangers to be a well-rounded class, while the Colossus fills a tank role. These suits will also have numerous abilities and be customizable, with flight, underwater movement and a mortar ability all being showcased. The combat seems somewhat similar to that of Mass Effect: Andromeda, BioWare’s previous title.
Anthem is set to be released in 2018.
