No Man’s Sky Will Not Require PlayStation Plus

No Man’s Sky’s launch is right around the corner, as the new title from Hello Games has recently gone gold and will be releasing on August 9th, 2016. The new sci-fi title is an extremely ambitious take on exploration  in gaming, placing the player in an infinitely procedurally generated universe that the entire player base shares. It was recently revealed that this immense universe can be enjoyed and experienced without a subscription to PlayStation Plus – Sony’s Xbox Live Gold equivalent.

Sony recently shared the following with GameInformer:

“PS Plus won’t be a requirement to play online, however you will need to connected to the internet for your discoveries to register with the universal atlas.”

Hello Games has described No Man’s Sky as an experience that is not intended to be shared cooperatively. While the player will encounter and interact with other players in the universe, the galaxy (with quintillions of planets) is not meant to be explored side by side with another, hence the lack of subscription requirement.
