Nintendo Switch Sales Reach 2.47 Million in First Month

According to an earnings report from Nintendo, their new Nintendo Switch console has sold 2.74 million units worldwide in its first month since release. The console also outsold one of its predecessors, the Wii, in its first week.

Nintendo has stated that this is a “promising start” for the newly released console. Additionally, the Switch’s flagship title, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, has actually sold 20,000 more copies than the console itself, reaching 2.76 million units sold. The newest Zelda has also sold 1.08 million copies on the Wii U console alone.

Another one of the Switch’s launch titles, 1-2 Switch, was not given public sales numbers. However, Nintendo representatives stated that the game was “generating buzz”.

Nintendo expects to sell 10 million units of the Nintendo Switch in its first year, which already comes close to overcoming the Wii U’s lifetime sales of 13.5 million. With both the Switch and the Nintendo 3DS handheld console performing well in sales, things are looking up for Nintendo as they head into the 2017 gaming season.
