Earlier today, Blizzard announced the inclusion of two more teams into the Overwatch League, London and a second Los Angles team. The addition of these two teams brings the league total up to nine, with Boston, New York City, Miami, Orlando, San Francisco, Shanghai, Seoul each housing a team and L.A. already home to the team owned by Immortals CEO Noah Whinston.
This second L.A. team is owned by Stan and Josh Kroenke, owners of organization across various sports leagues: the L.A. Rams (NFL), Denver Nuggets (NBA), Colorado Avalanche (NHL), Colorado Rapids (MLS), and Colorado Mammoths (NLL). This foray into eSports expands the family’s portfolio even broader and further cements the Overwatch League as a big-money tournament venture.
The London team is owned by current eSports organization Cloud9, which began as a League of Legends team before eventually becoming one of the most popular eSports organizations to date, fielding teams in a wide variety of games including League of Legends, DotA 2, Counter Strike, Super Smash Bros., Rocket League, Call of Duty, and Vainglory.
These two teams join the league fairly early on in the player signing window, which lasts from August 1 to October 30.
