January 2018 Mini Nintendo Direct Recap

Nintendo fans were cautious heading into the New Year, as the company released many heavy-hitting exclusive games for the Nintendo Switch in its launch year. Many questioned if 2018 would yield the same amount of quality games for the new console. However, a new “mini” Nintendo Direct has just been released, showcasing new games releasing on the Nintendo Switch in 2018.

Here is a recap of just a few of the games revealed and showcased in the new Nintendo Direct!

Mario Tennis Aces

Mario Tennis is back! Mario Tennis Aces brings the classic fast-paced Mario Tennis gameplay to Nintendo Switch with upgraded graphics, as well as a new story mode featuring missions and boss battles. We can’t wait to get back on the court. Mario Tennis Aces releases Spring 2018.

Kirby Star Allies

The first Kirby platformer for Nintendo Switch has received a name and release date. Kirby Star Allies will release on March 16th, providing a new Kirby adventure for Nintendo fans, including new abilities/combat, features, and cooperative multiplayer.

Dark Souls: Remastered

The critically-acclaimed, highly challenging Dark Souls will be finding itself in the hands of Nintendo fans on May 25, 2018 with the release of Dark Souls: Remastered. The remastering will buff the game up to 1080p/30fps on Nintendo Switch, and can be pushed even further (4K/60fps) on high-end consoles such as the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.

Additional Reveals

Nintendo also revealed a handful of game DLCs and updates within the mini Direct. Super Mario Odyssey will receive a free update that introduces a multiplayer-oriented hide-and-seek mode, Donkey Kong will be added to Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battleand Pokken Tournament DX will be receiving new characters in two waves of DLC. A port of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze has also been announced and was given a May 4th release date.
