Injustice 2 Developers Announce Atom Character

The juggernaut developers behind many of gaming’s most successful and fighting games, (most recently the wildly successful Injustice 2) have recently announced a strange new addition to Injustice 2’s roster of mostly DC heroes and villains. Netherealm Studios, after adding a couple of Mortal Kombat characters released a trailer earlier this week for Atom.

For those who don’t recognize the character, Atom has the ability to change the size of his body through use of his specialized suit. For the canonically inclined, the Atom we’ll be seeing in Injustice 2 will be the pupil of the first Atom, Ryan Choi, instead of the original Ray Palmer Atom.

The reason that this character announcement is particularly strange is that Neatherealm had already announced the three characters that would be included with Fighter Pack 2: Black Manta, Raiden and Hellboy. While Black Manta has been out for a few weeks, Raiden was released on October 3rd, the day before this announcement.

Hellboy hasn’t even gotten his own trailer yet. Whether Atom is going to be a part of the next character pack or is a standalone, has not been clarified yet. The trailer states only that Atom is coming soon. Nine characters are still supposedly in the pipeline for players who purchased the premium DLC, so it remains to be seen if Atom is one of them or just an extra Neatherealm decided to throw in.
