Halo 5: Guardians reintroduced Halo 2’s interesting concept of playing multiple characters in the game’s single player campaign, but when the game launched, fans realized that missions from the Master Chief’s perspective were noticeably lacking.
The Halo 5: Guardians campaign required players to play as both Master Chief and Spartan Locke throughout the game’s 15-mission story. Some fans developed a distaste for this style and it became one of the core complaints about the game.
Halo Franchise Director Frank O’Connor addressed the issue head on:
“We definitely marketed in a way that we hoped was going to bring surprise, but for some fans and certainly fans of Master Chief, it was a huge disappointment because they wanted more Chief.
Halo 6 will probably not feature any new playable characters. Doubling down on Master Chief’s story and the amount of focus on him was probably the easiest learning from Halo 5.”
This comes as good news for Halo fans that are hoping 343 Industries returns to Halo’s roots in the next iteration.
