Halo 5 Overtime Update Patch Notes Released

343 Industries have unveiled the patch notes for the upcoming Halo 5 Overtime update, which will optimize the game for 4K play on Xbox One and introduce new features and sandbox tunings for Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer. Here’s what you can expect to see in the new update.

New Features

  • 4K UHD support for Xbox One X
  • Oddball returns as a core gametype (Note: Custom Game maps currently not supported, only available in matchmaking)
  • Halo 5 Local Sever App Released for Windows 10
  • New HCS skins introduced: Luminosity (11/7), Str8 Rippin (11/21), Splyce (12/5)
  • New national flag skins added for HaloWC tour
  • New commendations added
  • New Custom Game options added (Oddball options, Flagnum type, respawn settings, and more)

 

Assault

  • Bomb carrier now only has one thrust charge
  • Bomb now detonates after scoring

 


Sandbox Changes

The Halo 5 Overtime update includes changes to 14 items within the Halo 5: Guardians sandbox. When the update goes live, the following changes will be pushed live across all modes in the game (Arena, Warzone, and Campaign)

Assault Rifle: 

  • Decreased magnetism cone/reticle size by 7%
  • Inner reticle is 99% less forgiving towards headshots
  • Close range magnetism reduced by ~20%
  • Rate of fire increased by 5%
  • Base damage per bullet reduced by 23%
  • Headshot multiplier increased by 200%

 

Battle Rifle:

  • Rate of fire (bullets per second) reduced by 50%
  • Reduced red reticle range by ~17%
  • Slightly looser bullet groupings (spread)
  • Magnetism effectiveness range increased (less sticky on close targets)
  • No damage changes

 

Gunfighter Magnum:

  • Gunfighter becomes less accurate the longer/faster it is fired
  • Aim assistance range reduced by 65%
  • Magnetism range increased by approx. 29%.
  • Magazine size increased to 18 rounds
  • Base damage increased by 25%

 

Carbine:

  • Red reticle range reduced by 8%
  • Slightly looser bullet groupings/spread at longer ranges

 

DMR:

  • Red reticle/aim assist max effective range increased by ~24%
  • Magnetism effective range reduced by 24% (Less sticky on close targets)
  • Rate of fire decreased by 8%
  • Headshot specific aim assist reduced by 30%
  • Overall damage unchanged

 

SMG:

  • Reduced bullet damage by 23%
  • Headshot multiplier reduced by 27%
  • Slight decrease to initial accuracy

 

Energy Sword: 

  • “Relic” Sword added to Halo 5 exclusively for Arena play with the following modifications
  • Improved swap/ready times
  • 20% movement speed increase removed

 

Fuel Rod Cannon: 

  • Reduced explosion radius by 24%
  • Reduced velocity by 6%
  • Changed projectile behaviors

 

Railgun:

  • Increased charge time by 33%
  • Increased time that a charge can be held by 100%

 

Grenade Launcher:

  • Projectile velocity reduced by 30%
  • Blas radius reduced by 33%
  • Projectile bounce tightened

 

Beam Rifle: 

  • Hip fire aim assist reductions to match the UNSC Sniper

 

Active Camo:

  • Improved player invisibility at base movement speed

 

Frag Grenades: 

  • Reduced blast radius by 25%
  • Increased consistency to more frequently drop opponents shields by 50%

 

Splinter Grenades: 

  • Initial impact damage reduced by 77%
  • Lingering Splinter damage increased by roughly same amount

 


Additional Fixes and Updates:

  • Improved join-in-progress parameters for Social playlists
  • General stability improvements
  • Exploit fixes for Warzone
  • Fixed black screen and join-in-progress bugs
  • Numerous additional fixes and bug squashes
