Big Team Battle has always been a fan favorite, ever since Halo: Combat Evolved with 16 players running around on Hang Em High in some chaotic fun. Over the years, it has been played both casually and competitively and it has usually been one of the most popular playlists in all games.
With Halo 5: Guardians, 343 Industries have introduced a new ‘bigger player experience’ called Warzone – a 12v12 game mode which introduces friendly and enemy AI into the mix. However, fans have constantly asked for classic 8v8 Big Team Battle to still be an option. Josh Holmes, Studio Head for Halo 5: Guardians recently commented that while classic Big Team Battle would have a presence in Halo 5: Guardians, it will not be available at launch.
Here’s the exact quote from Holmes posted over on NeoGAF:
“In addition, we are working on a more classic BTB experience with timed weapon and vehicle spawns, and this will be introduced shortly after launch with a number of maps specifically optimized for BTB.”
Frank O’ Connor, Franchise Development Director at 343 Industries also commented on Big Team Battle in Halo 5: Guardians, promising that it has its own pool of maps rather than modified Arena variants.
“BTB is its own beast , with dedicated maps, rather than subsets or expansions of existing ones.”
