With respect to week-one sales for a title, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands is the biggest game of 2017 so far; placing ahead of titles like Horizon: Zero Dawn and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Ubisoft’s Wildlands released exactly one year after another Tom Clancy game, The Division, a title that broke records in Q1 sales according to Gfk Chart Track.
Wildlands carried a fresh image for the Ghost Recon franchise going into launch. A slight abandonment of the all-out tactical affair that marked previous games provides an open-world cooperative approach. Players take on the cartel as elite US soldiers, which sounds expected, but in a way that allows exploration of a vast Bolivian landscape—free to take on whatever, whenever. Apparently Ubisoft’s dedication to open-world shooters is paying off. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
