I'd say H5 has a few really good maps already, and what makes them work well seems to be a combination of high verticality and claustrophobic design. This seems to encourage the type of super technical Frosty/Shottzy-esque gameplay the best. The Rig, Plaza and Coliseum are what I'm thinking of here mostly. If you wanted to bring an older design back, you'd want to look for something with those traits. Lockout springs to mind.
This makes me think of Halo Reach maps that sound like this. Imagine Countdown, Reflection and Powerhouse in Halo 5, they might actually work better.
I saw a good post a few pages back about how the Suspector/Shooter/Rayne/Ryanoob squad was a “club of dropped objective players” and thought what other teams would look like if all the players did the same role.

SWAT has no-radar, Team Slayer and Team Doubles has gametypes with no-radar.
SAW buff even tho wasn't the best move ever, it was kind of justified. The AR compared to previous games is quite powerful at close range. In my opinion, it was coherent to have a buff in the SAW when the AR is strong as hell. Ordnances and Infinity Settings are the one to blame, because if we had only one SAW placed in a map with one clip, it would be considered important and would work better.
Shotgun Ricochet was chosen by the community, winning the community poll. What's the point of a poll if 343 would ignore it completely?
I'm just sayin'! Nothing else!
Swat has no shields, so it's not a classic Halo experience. Team Slayer playlist has radar in all gametypes (IS, TS and Legendary). Not sure about Doubles, but its not 4v4.
I agree that Ordnance/Infinity are to blame, but they have been there from the start, it makes no sense to buff the SAW if they weren't going to nerf these settings. Also it's not like the AR and SAW are the only weapons in the game, a buff would be understandable if they were. The SAW already killed players faster than the AR with the change to it, so there was no need to increase the damage of the SAW.
If they were gonna leave the option to call it down in Ordnance, they shouldnt have buffed it. Simple.
