You can't pick anything from Halo. What are your favorite game musical scores? The don't even have to be favorites either; just notable scores if so. I like Uncharted 4, The Last of Us, Battlefield 1, TR and Rise of the Tomb Raider (Rise > TR), Assassins Creed II, Horizon Zero Dawn (recently won a Jerry Goldsmith Award for Best Original Score. Its amazing.), Skyrim, Oblivion, and Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag (haven't played the whole game). I haven't played Abzu or Firewatch, but those both have great scores (Abzu > Firewach).
I'll try adding more when I think of them.

Here's more: the two Mirrors Edge games have great atmospheric scores.

They're not necessarily the best, but I get really nostalgic for the old Pokemon chiptunes, with the Gold/Silver soundtrack being my favorite of those.

I've never listened to any Pokemon music lul. Cool deal though. Also never have played a Pokemon game. Never been a fan of the brand.

Visual Novels usually have some great music (Nearly every theme in Rewrite is just so damn good). Rocket League, Gravity Rush, and This War of Mine: The Little Ones are also notable.

Night in the Woods is a recent favorite that I've been listening to a lot. Mostly very mellow piano/guitar/violin/synth(?), but there's some variety outside of that too.  The dream sequence songs really stand out from the others in sound and quality, Astral Alley especially.  Very emotional stuff overall.

Cave Story is another one of my all time favorites, having tons of very upbeat and nostalgic chiptunes but with a few somber tracks as well. "Remastered" version is roughly equal, but skip the "New" 3D version.  It's lesser known cousin Kero Blaster also has some good music in that way. Undertale OST  is great for the same reason, but it's already been given tons of recognition as is.

Pretty much anything Nintendo has ever released has great music so I won't bother mentioning all of those games.

So much nostalgia. Loved your list @Cursed Lemon and I'll check out some of you other guys' recommendations as well.

There's many soundtracks I enjoy and obviously Halo is one of them. Two I go out of my way to tell people how good they are is Donkey Kong Country 2 and Perfect Dark. The guy who did Perfect Dark also did Goldeneye, and you'd think he had a ton of time to improve and prepare for Perfect Dark. Apparently though Rare went with another composer and then pretty far into the development life they got Grant back.

I'm most fond of the old school JRPGs. Suikoden I & II and Final Fantasy X are my favorite OSTs.

Perfect Dark is the only First-Person Shooter that rivals the first three Halo games and ODST, in terms of music. Here is an example:

One of the best tracks out of the entire game. Damn, man, the OST in this game is just so well-composed! The instruments are amazing to listen to, it's alien, and it's good for studying.

What make this soundtrack even more amazing is that this:

Can go from this:

EDIT: Also, this is the best track in any training/practice level of any game, ever.

I present to you, the most bi-polar game in history in regard to its soundtrack.

You go from this...

...to this.

Look, I get that the track is trying to set a mood.

But looking around to find a stupid hole in the wall to blow up for two fucking hours with that SHIT on loop is absolutely infuriating.

Oh boy, oh boy

Since I can't include CE, the remaining 4 of the top 5 of my favorite games all have one or two songs that hit that sweet spot for me, but I'll include a few others as well.

Megaman 2

Phantom Crash

Undertale

Persona 5

And then some others:

KoTOR 2

Republic Commando

2142

CnC Red Alert 2

CnC Generals

CnC3

Homeworld

Rayman 2

Jet Set Radio Future

Defender 2002

Megaman Zero 3

Megaman Battle Network 5

MGS3

MGSV

Portal

Strike Suit Zero

U/SSF IV

Metal Slug 3

Ninja Gaiden 2

There's probably more, and certainly more per game but that would take me hours to compile, so
