EA Boss Responds to Mass Effect: Andromeda’s Criticism

Mass Effect, despite the recent fumbles with Mass Effect: Andromeda is one of EA’s most loved and popular franchises. When Andromeda launched and received a negative critical and fan response, BioWare Montreal quickly took to responding to feedback in order to save their game.

Since then, BioWare Montreal has been shuttered and the Mass Effect franchise has been put on the back-burner, at least for the time being. 4 months after the game’s launch, EA’s Executive Vice President, Patrick Soderlund stepped forward to speak to Gamereactor on the whole situation. “Well I think, my personal opinion is, I think that the game… I usually don’t do this, but this is one of those places where I feel like the game got criticised a little bit more than it deserved. I think the game is actually a great game. Yes, we have to acknowledge the fact that there were some things that maybe we could have done better, absolutely, but as a whole, if you go in and you buy the game today with everything that’s in it today, I believe that that’s a game worth buying, personally.”

Soderlund stated that he sees “no reason why we shouldn’t come back to Mass Effect. Why not? It’s a spectacular universe, it’s a loved [series], it has a big fanbase, and it’s a game that has done a lot for EA and for BioWare.” However, before fans get their hopes up for another Mass Effect title in the next couple of years, Soderlund added that the franchise would have to be “fresh,” “exciting” and “relevant.”

It was already recently announced that the Mass Effect franchise was going to be put on ice for a bit and that Andromeda’s developer, BioWare Montreal had been merged with Motive Studios. It may be a while until we see another Mass Effect game, but it’s good to know that the door is open for the franchise to return.
