San Diego Comic Con 2014 just recently ended, and we covered all the Halo news which came out of the event in our SDCC 2014 Halo recap. 343 Industries hosted a total of two panels over the span of Comic Con – one for Halo: Nightfall and another for Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
At the end of the Halo: The Master Chief Collection panel, a Q&A session was held between the developers and the audience. One person in attendance asked about Dual Wielding, a hugely popular feature that was added in Halo 2 and made an appearance in Halo 3 – two titles shipping inside The Master Chief Collection, later this year.
Specifically, the guy asked about 343 Industries plans for putting Dual Wielding back into future Halo titles. Frank O’ Connor – Franchise Development Director for the Halo franchise answered the question with a very straight forward answer.
Frank O’ Connor: There’s currently no plans to put Dual Wielding in Halo 5, I’ll tell you that but you know it isn’t impossible in the future, but no plans at this time.
So, take from that what you will but at this point in development, dual wielding is NOT planned. It is also worth mentioning that back in June we learned that Halo 5: Guardians would not have armor abilities as well. With the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta kicking off in 149 days on December 27th, it is highly unlikely the game will feature dual wielding when it ships in 2015.
